v3.5 Arcade Feature Poll
I'm coding new features for the 3.5 edition of the v3 Arcade at the moment, and I've been thinking about adding something new - but I'm not sure if it's something people would actually use or find useful in anyway, so I thought I'd post a poll on it.
The Idea It's a pretty simple idea. The forum admin can create a number of "teams" (a minimum of 2), each with their own name, description, emblem, etc. Now, when a user registers on your forums or visits the arcade for the first time, they're given the opportunity to join one of these teams. Once a user has joined a team, their successes in the Arcade translate into points for their side. The side which performs the best at the end of the week wins numerous perks, such as (and these would be customisable): - Increased PM inbox size - New games (although they wouldn't win points for playing "their-side only" games). - A trophy visible in their postbit (if you're on the winning team for that week). - If some sort of store hack is installed such as uShop, they'd be awarded with uCash. - Reputation gains for individual achievements (e.g. most games played). And whatever else we can think of. There would be other tie-ins with some other features, but I won't go into that right now. My question is, is this something you would want to see and use on your forums? Or do you think it's a bit of a gimmick that won't last and isn't worth coding? |
support for ucash/ushop for this as possible points system would be cool,
also the idea for avatar idea I posted on the other thread aka #2, but have the option to unlock games based on number of posts or points, with similar system in poll might be interesting. Maybe have phrase for each team name, so admins can name the team names what ever they want. aka Green Team and Red Team etc. If you need beta testers let me know .. I have vb 3.0.8 / 3.5 RC2 on private localhost clean installs. I can test with virtual PC, xp 64x/32bit / windows 2003 64bit/32bit and centos 3.5 linux setup for testing. |
As much as I'd like that, I would do it as an add-on. I'd rather get the arcade faster. :)
|
definitely work doing.
|
man this would be superb a lot of people are doing the arcade on my forum and really love it man... go for it!!
|
Ye have my vote for doing it.

I think it is a nice feature, but if it would delay the release I'd vote against it. However, as a feature not scheduled for the initial release, I'd support it. Just another impatient 3.5 user, awaiting the new v3Arcade eagerly. ;) |

I'd do it now. I think it would be something that a lot of sites would use. Gimmick or not, it would be years ahead of any other arcade. ;)

somebody please let me know, is v3.5 arcade going to feature a tournament option, yes or no? |
an arcade is something i'll like to have on the 3.5, and your ideas sound great :) hope you keep working on it :)
|
Oh my goodness I can't wait for the arcade to return, even if it's exactly the same as before, once it gets here for GOLD I'll be sooo happy.
I think the only thing that could make me happier 'arcade' wise, is if something could be done, even for just 1 or 2 custom games to have real-time competitions. For instance there are about 10 'multiplayer' games on myspace, (that are of course borrowed from some commercial website) and you can play like golf, pool, chess, etc. and see the other persons moves while they're being made and stuff like that. I'd easily pay $200 for the same, but maybe in the future when that's more feasible. For now I am just so happy that there will be an arcade system that works and that has games you can install. :) I'm thrilled. Enough ranting. :o |
John it sounds like a great feature to go along with a whole new vb. Any eta on release date?

Well, RC 3 will be released within the next days.
Thus, it could take some weeks (or months?) till 3.5 goes gold. Happy waiting for the Arcade, I'm gonna downgrade to 3.0.8 manually. |
I would do it as an addon. I'd rather get the arcade faster

I totally agree. Your Arcade is the bomb and adding this would definitely raise the bar even higher. I can't wait. :nervous: |

Excellant and genius idea john!
You should do it ! |
any new / update on this :)
|
John is waiting for 3.5 GOLD, I think it will be kept like this and it should be
|
I think it would be excellent as long as it's optional both on the user end and the admin end. Plus I think it'd be nice for there to be some team spirit AS WELL rather than the usual self-glorification thing.
|
agreed nice lil feature it would be nice to intergrate the arcade pass hack too but thats my opinion cant wait for it to be released
|
Of course worth it!Great works!
Also want to have a smooth upgrade with the current games and records |
