I still love vb2!

I dont think I'm going to upgrade because I haven't seen any vb3+ I'd feel comfortable running. Plus I'd rather be the odd ball distinct from other sites

vB3 is way more powerful and easier to customize (especially vB 3.5) ... I'd never go back to vB2 :)

May I ask why exactly you don't like vB 3 (which is almost 1 1/2 years old already)?

I definately like that skin, though. ;)

Poethik 08-08-2005 01:00 AM

I'd only upgrade if I could get the same skin and lay out.

I added so many hacks already...I think it would be a month of work to bring it to the same state.

I really don't see the difference...newer isn't always essentially better!

I like the vb2 button set more than the new one, thats why I use most of the old set at my site.

You don't know what you are missing then. The new product manager makes it so a lot of the older type hacks that you used to have to edit the php files to install can now be done without any edits to the files at all. Makes upgrading a thousand times easier and faster now. ;)

I do own a license but I did save 3.0 before it expired...I'll experiment a little to see if its possible to keep my same site but upgraded

The product manager didn't come along until 3.5. ;)

The product manager is the best reason to upgrade. Just so much easier to upgrade and install mods. However, some skins always look better in vB2 and vB2 has a little less clutter. I can understand why you'd wanna stick with it.

I wish there was a version that had the administrative capabilities and power of vB 3.0.0/3.5 and the interface of vB2 :(.

Tony G 08-08-2005 03:14 AM

You'd have to take out a lot of features that make vB3 good though to return its interface back to vB2. It'd just be too much of a loss..

Maybe I can become an expert with vb2... get bored because nobodies coding vb2's no more. Learn and create groundbreaking codes myself. I have the motivation for it. I started not knowin anything and now I understand databases and hacks. What if I move vb2 in a direction different than vb3. then I post hacks and influence future upgrades.

I think all the new hacks are based on the basic codings from the original phps and templates. I might not be able to use the fancy hack upload machine but I have more control over how I want to personalize my site. Their are benefits and the disadvantage is how much creativity you can apply while coding I think.

Just my general thought, but in vb2 it is ALOT easier to make schemes, you simply have to change the header to your choice, and have the right graphics and HTML Codes. (This is in my view).

vb3 may be faster and has more options, but it's alot more easier to make schemes, and i'd use vb3 mroe if vb3 had vb2's template and scheme system.

Fantastic forum though, brillent scheme. Glad your still in the vb2 side of things :)
