Barakat 08-05-2005 04:59 AM

what are those changes in the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post template coz i make many changes on it ! and its better to add those steps than to replace all its contains

Logikos 08-05-2005 05:54 AM

The template change will make it look like the screenshot. In the readme.txt file, it contains the variables and a brief description of what the variable does. That way users can customize it to fit there needs.

Hello,

All went well except for one thing. After I installed this, I couldn't get it to work with the existing forums I have. It works great when new forums are added, but doesn't take effect with the other forums. Do we need to re-add all of the forums in order for this to work?

The options are there, I used them, activated them, and saved. Then I looked at the forums and it didn't work. So I went down and rebuilt the forums and then repaired/optimized the tables. Still didn't take effect.

Thats when I tried a new forum. That worked great. So I re-did the steps above again to see if it needed a kick perhaps, and still nothing.

Thanks for creating this. If I need to, I will redo all the forums. There are only 30-40 of them right now, so it won't be too bad. I am going to hold out on that however in case you find a way to force the new addition.

hotrod1 08-05-2005 02:04 PM

I am having that same problem too with my forum.

Rich 08-05-2005 05:52 PM

Hello,

Is it possible to make sponsors for Categories? I want to seperate my categories, but when a Forum is placed in a category, it kills the sponsor.

For some reason, they don't seem to get along.

Well this was created on a fresh install, let me install this on my live forum, since I have pre exsisting forums all ready. But i've never seen or heard of such a bug.

Rich 08-05-2005 06:16 PM

Hello,

No screenshot required. If I have a forum that has a sponsor, and move it to a Category, it removes the sponsor bit completely. Just picture the "normal" view. Thats what I get.

It has to do with the categories. I installed this on a pre-existing site with forums, and then did a clean install. The categories, for some reason, mess it up.

Categories wouldn't bother me except I want to space everything. I can space the categories, and lose this mod, or use forums and subforums, but no spacing, and use this mod.

My preference, use this mod and space them. lol

Logikos 08-05-2005 06:27 PM

Well depending on the design of your forums you can place this anywhere within the forum. Its a global variable. You can even place it in the postbit if you wanted to. And if you have a banner on forumid 6, then everypost that is in forumid 6 will show the banner.

I can't seem to reproduce the bug you stating about pre existing forums. Keep in mind that your categorys are within the "forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost" template, and your subforums are within the "forumhome_forumbit_level2_post" template.

Logikos 08-05-2005 06:37 PM

As you can see in my screenshot, everything is working as designed.

My forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost template code is:
HTML Code:

<tbody>
        <tr>
                <td class="tcat" colspan="2">

                        <a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]">$forum[title]</a>
                        <if condition="$show['forumdescription']"><div class="smallfont">$forum[description]</div></if>
                        <if condition="$show['subforums']"><div class="smallfont"><strong>$vbphrase[subforums]</strong>: $forum[subforums]</div></if>
                </td>
                <td class="tcat" colspan="<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">4<else />3</if>" valign="middle">
                <a style="float:$stylevar[right]" href="#top" onclick="return toggle_collapse('forumbit_$forumid')"><img id="collapseimg_forumbit_$forumid" src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/collapse_tcat{$collapseimg_forumid}.gif" alt="" border="0" /></a>
                <if condition="$forum[issponsor] == 1">
                        $vbphrase[sponsored_by] <a href="$forum[sponsor_url]" target="_blank">$forum[sponsor_banner]</a>
                </if>
                </td>
        </tr>
</tbody>
<if condition="$childforumbits">
<tbody id="collapseobj_forumbit_$forumid" style="{$collapseobj_forumid}">
$childforumbits
</tbody>
</if>

My forumhome_forumbit_level2_post Template code is:
HTML Code:

<tr align="center">
        <td class="alt2"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_statusicon]/forum_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" /></td>
        <td class="alt1Active" align="$stylevar[left]" id="f$forum[forumid]">

                <if condition="$forum[issponsor] == 1">
                        <div style="float:$stylevar[right]">
                        $vbphrase[sponsored_by] <a href="$forum[sponsor_url]" target="_blank">$forum[sponsor_banner]</a>
                        </div>
                </if>

                <div>
                        <a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]"><strong>$forum[title]</strong></a>
                        <if condition="$show['browsers']"><span class="smallfont">(<phrase 1="$forum[browsers]">$vbphrase[x_viewing]</phrase>)</span></if>

                <if condition="$show['forumdescription']"><div class="smallfont">$forum[description]</div></if>
                <if condition="$show['forumsubscription']"><div class="smallfont"><strong><a href="subscription.php?$session[sessionurl]do=removesubscription&amp;f=$forum[forumid]">$vbphrase[unsubscribe_from_this_forum]</a></strong></div></if>
                <if condition="$show['subforums']"><div class="smallfont" style="margin-top:$stylevar[cellpadding]px"><strong>$vbphrase[subforums]</strong>: $forum[subforums]</div></if>
        </td>
        <td class="alt2" nowrap="nowrap">$forum[lastpostinfo]</td>
        <td class="alt1">$forum[threadcount]</td>
        <td class="alt2">$forum[replycount]</td>
        <if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">
        <td class="alt1"><div class="smallfont">$forum[moderators]&nbsp;</div></td>
        </if>

Rich 08-05-2005 07:18 PM

Hello,

I don't know why, but when I copied your code above over the default code I had for those 2 templates, everything started working fine.

Prior to just now, I haden't editted either one of those files. Was I suppose to do that during install? I only editted the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post. With just that edited, that is where I was getting the problem. With your template code above, everything is working.

I don't know, but thank you! This does what I need. Thanks again!

Logikos 08-05-2005 07:24 PM

Glad you got it working :)

Koopa 08-05-2005 07:26 PM

This looks good, will give it a try sometime :)

hotrod1 08-05-2005 08:02 PM

Thanks alot and that worked and I know why there was a problem before. In your readme it says forumhome_forumbit_level1_post when it should be forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost. Hope that helps and that future installations can be saved from the hassle but it is a great hack now all I need is some supporters willing to donate lol

Logikos 08-05-2005 08:14 PM

Thanks, I didn't relize that. I'll fix now.

Logikos 08-05-2005 08:18 PM

Updated first post with fixed readme.txt :)

hotrod1 08-05-2005 08:53 PM

Glad to help you out! Now if only I could make my own hacks from scratch...

I started out installing hacks also before I could code my own. ;)

hotrod1 08-05-2005 09:18 PM

Yeah I have installed countless hacks for phpbb, punbb, and now vbulletin and now I hope to create some for vbulletin. Also, when I replaced the code in my forum now under my forum title above the navbar I have a bar across it and also when there is a thread title in the section as well. I modified the CSS myself so maybe it is a problem with that and now it has appeared but any solution? Thanks

http://explosive-hosting.com/forum/

Logikos 08-05-2005 09:24 PM

Thats because you have one <td> as class="alt1" and another <td> inside that using class="navbar".

Remove class="navbar" from the <td> inside your navbar template.

Also, create a new thread if you have style problems that don't have anything to do with my hack. I don't want people to get the wrong idea and think my hack is causeing style isues. Thanks :)

hotrod1 08-05-2005 11:46 PM

Thanks, that solved my on the homepage but now it is still on the threads. Sorry I thought it was your hack but it seems that it is not although I will post a support thread here now then.

Logikos 08-06-2005 12:19 AM

Make a new thread in the appropriate forum posting your nav template inside the [html] blocks and I'll fix it for you. :)

ThePimp 08-06-2005 07:27 AM

I can't get mine to show up for some reason. I followed the Readme to the T, and set it up on one of my forums, but for some reason, it's just not showing up. Any ideas?

I added a new forum, and it worked on there. Seems to not show up on old forums.

EDIT:
Got it. I just had to change a couple other templates in the forumhome_ section, post & nopost. Works now. Thanks for your help.

Logikos 08-06-2005 07:54 AM

Glad you figured it out :)

southernlady 08-09-2005 10:01 AM

Mine aren't showing up either. I tried creating new forums and it won't show up there. I must have missed a step somewhere.

And this part, I can't figure out where to go to code it to MY specifications:
Quote:

// - Variables -
// #############################################
$forum[issponsor] = on/off switch. 1=on, 0=off
$forum[sponsor_url] = The URL that is defined in the admincp
$forum[sponsor_banner] = The IMG code defined in the admincp

For 'Sponsors Banner' use the following: This will align the image in the middle for a more professional look

<img src="http://www.site.com/path/to/image.gif" border="0" alt="" align="middle" />
Liz

Logikos 08-09-2005 10:04 AM

Did you do this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....7&postcount=14

southernlady 08-10-2005 12:56 AM

Yes, and it didn't work. Liz

Logikos 08-10-2005 01:00 AM

make sure your using the correct style. Its not just not gonna work for you but everyone else. :ermm:

southernlady 08-16-2005 12:49 PM

Okay, I got it to work but I still haven't figured out the part I put up there. Liz

Logikos 08-16-2005 02:18 PM

The templates part? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....7&postcount=14

Richard Tafoya 08-21-2005 06:57 AM

Request: Can a variation be created that allows a board owner to assign different sponsors to different categories or forums? This is something Sitepoint did quite a while back, and I've been hoping for a plugin to make it feasible for the rest of us.

Example: All forums in the dating category sponsored by Yahoo Singles. All music forums sponsored by Musician's Friend.

Logikos 08-21-2005 05:35 PM

You can do this with this plugin. This is just like the hack that sitepoint had. You just have to add the proper code to each forum....

ultranerds 09-17-2005 05:45 AM

Hi,

Won't install for me :/

I uploaded the .xml, and just see;

vBulletin [Edit] [Delete]

..in the plugin area.

Any ideas? :(

TIA

dsotmoon 09-30-2005 10:48 PM

anyone tested this in Gold?
