May I suggest to use Product Management instead of a custom Installer?
This would make it a lot easier, for you and the Users.
And it would be more "standards compliant" ;)

Kirk Y 07-28-2005 05:05 PM

Screenshots? I'm one of those people that are too lazy to install a modification, unless they're motivated by screenshots! :lick:

.Tim 07-28-2005 05:13 PM

Sweet! I just started working on my own, this will save me some time. :D

loneranger 07-28-2005 06:20 PM

Very Cool. As soon as you have the product manager version working you have an install from me.

Andreas 07-28-2005 10:19 PM

???
Product Manager is a built-in feature of vBulletin 3.5 RC1.

If this was intended for me, I think we are posting at cross purposes. I understood from your first post that this hack had it's own installer rather than using the built Product manager.

womensden 07-29-2005 12:01 AM

how about a how to on this? I was going to just upload the files, but then I was about to replace a file. Dont want to do that if I'm not supposed to.

Thanks.

Alan @ CIT 07-29-2005 10:54 AM

Loneranger,

Not sure if your aware or not, but your zip file contains admincp\template.php from vBulletin - you should probably remove this from the download :)

Alan.

Marco van Herwaarden 07-29-2005 10:56 AM

I removed the zip-file to give the author the opportunity to upload a version without the template.php

Marco van Herwaarden 07-29-2005 10:59 AM

Alan, next time please use the report post button, so only moderators get warned on this.

Alan @ CIT 07-29-2005 01:52 PM

/me nods - Will do

loneranger 07-29-2005 02:47 PM

have now re uploaded the zip sorry about that hopefully it won't happen again, i am now in testing stage with the product manager and hope will have this released shortly please notifiy me of any bugs in the meantime

Marco van Herwaarden 07-29-2005 03:49 PM

Thanks for uploading loneranger

womensden 07-29-2005 04:39 PM

Thanks. I will try this one.

ThePimp 07-29-2005 11:20 PM

Nice, I'll look forward to it. Also, I get an error when accessing the image host page after I select the image and try to upload it:

Warning: getimagesize(/bigrip.gif): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /image_host.php on line 99
unable to get image size

Any idea on how to fix this?

loneranger 07-30-2005 02:11 PM

yeah it's me i have missed the setting that needed to be added on install to set the directory thanks for this will update asap

loneranger 07-30-2005 06:25 PM

the pimp i have now solve this small problem uninstall using the old installer and then re-upload all files and install throught the product manager in vb then goto the settings and set them as required should have any more problems now

ThePimp 07-30-2005 07:45 PM

Where do I find this "product_imghost.xml" file?

womensden 07-30-2005 08:28 PM

yeah, can't upload the product_imghost.xml because it is not included.

Getting the same error:

Warning: getimagesize(/brandonhat.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /image_host.php on line 99
unable to get image size

womensden 07-30-2005 08:48 PM

well, the idea was great and all but I tried to install it twice, both failing. Now I can't even completely uninstall with the script (after installing, still getting database errors because of things that have been left behind). This is just too much frustration for me.

whitetigergrowl 07-30-2005 11:49 PM

product_imghost.xml

Nice...its not included and its needed.

Vizionz 07-31-2005 12:25 AM

yeah this is so uncool it screwed my forum

theArchitect 07-31-2005 12:29 AM

Clearly this still has some bugs in it.

But I would add two key points which some users seem to be missing.

1. Don't run beta mods on live boards. Even if they are not beta, install them on a test board first, then if anything breaks and you can't fix it then no harm done.

2. ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DATABASE. So no matter what happens you can just restore the old one.

Vizionz 07-31-2005 12:34 AM

it is a test board but still why post stuff incomplete i could see bugs but at least put all the files to run it in the zip

I agree, that it is very frustrating. But then, I suppose that is the problem with betas. I doubt any coder would release something they knew didn't work. It must have worked in some form or else he would not have released it.

Me thinks a beta release subforum for each area is required. *theArchitect calls an Admin for their thoughts on this idea*

Vizionz 07-31-2005 01:00 AM

first off why does it not say in the instructions to run the install file from the admin cp ?

second when u try to load a xml file that u dont have it seams to not work

i got it to get rid of the error but as far as anything else i dont know since the instructions suck :(

womensden 07-31-2005 03:12 AM

I was getting the same error after uninstalling. It left a load of crap on my boards where I couldn't even edit a usergroup. I will not be reinstalling this hack after all of that.

*Clicks uninstall*

loneranger 07-31-2005 08:33 AM

i have re-uploaded the hack now rememeber this is only in beta and should be use only on a test board sorry to hear of your promblems but this should work fine now.

Brinnie 07-31-2005 08:54 AM

screenshots?

I get this error after installing then going to "image_host.php".

loneranger 07-31-2005 11:00 AM

Fixed this error was due to a javascript at top of page check the zip now also contains installation instructions for those who want it also template edit for the nav menu

ThePimp 07-31-2005 04:51 PM

How do we remove another user's images?

loneranger 07-31-2005 05:02 PM

still have to get that implemented will work on that today thanks for all your support so far

ThePimp 07-31-2005 05:06 PM

Ok, also... You may want to add a file naming process... Currently if 2 different users upload a file called mypic.jpg, it seems that the script keeps the same filename, and the first uploaded will be overwritten if I'm not mistaken?

Anyhow, just another observation. Looking good so far. Can't wait for watermarking and possibly other nifty features.

EDIT: Sorry, it does check the filename already, and my post after this one would take care of any duplication problems with the gallery, that may allow people to use other people's images in their posts.

My biggest concern with this is that User 1 uploads a file called 'mypic.jpg", and User 2 also has a mypic.jpg that is different... User 2 will need to rename their file before uploading which is one step that can be automated by implementing a pic gallery and a function for renaming the files that are uploaded.

ThePimp 07-31-2005 05:10 PM

Oh, also, it would be kinda nifty to have a gallery script work in conjunction with this, where it just displayed a vb style thumbnail gallery of all of the uploaded images, where when clicked on, the thumb links to the fullsized image on a vb template page.

Just a thought.
