Unliscenced users
1 Attachment(s)
is it possible for something to show in the postbit over here on vb.org if a user is unliscenced?
see attachment this way if someone tries asking questions and they have a pirated board or something like that... members won't give them any information that would make them be able to find vb software on the net.. |
They might not even be able to post at all in the release forums, but I could be wrong.

To my knowledge, unregistered users can't post in support forums or release forums. |
but they can post in site feedback
heres an example... https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=92781 the reason i brought this up is because i remembered this thread and now i saw this one. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=92931 so now he may or may not have a liscence.. i dunno.. but what if he doesnt.. now he has the info he needs to port his phpbb to his pirated vb board. again i have no clue if he's liscened now or not .. but im just saying in general maybe we can avoid things like that by having something in the postbit sayin that a user is unliscenced.. we dont need it for liscenced users just unliscenced |
indeed... i think this would serve a good purpose....

The licensed status of our members is only viewable to vBulletin.org staff members and shall stay that way to maintain their privacy. Bear in mind that unlicensed users cannot get support so it's safe to assume that you will always be answering a licensed users in the main forums.
|
so basically if a member ever asks for information in any other sections dont answer?
|
Unlicnesed users are only allowed to post in this forum, the lounge, and the pre-sales questions forum.
If you see someone asking for support in said forums simply don't answer them and report the post, a mod will be along to look at it shortly after. :) |
If someone is asking for help on vB in the site feedback or Lounge then chances are that he is unlicensed. For privacy reasons we can not share the license status to our members.
|
Question, why can't you share that info?
Or to put it another way, I am happy to have paid for my owned vb licence, I wouldn't mind having a public indicator in my profile or postbit confirming that. You could allow people to be 'publically licenced' or 'invisibly licenced' which would look like the same as unlicenced to non-staff. Anyhow... this idea would lead to the majority of people wearing their licence with pride, getting quicker replies from other users, whilst 1 post newbies posting mod requests would be ignored. :D [high]* Borgs8472 plots and schemes[/high] |
actually that was a desision by Jelsoft, and everyofficial board handles it that way.
to ask for the exact reasons, you may want to speak to an official jelsoft member over at vbulletin.com :) |
some people have nothing better to do... |
I know you wont but let me just say, please do not share this info
Even though you may not run illegal boards this is a privacy matter it erodes YOUR privacy and more importantly, to me at least, is my privacy if ANY information is revealed to other forum users I'm very conciuous of this on my site and dont let anyone besides myself, not moderators, not super moderators, view anyones IP or email. All they get is a username and join date. etc Hopefully Jelsoft is as privacy concious with our info. |

bigcurt,
You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download hacks and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (vB-germany users click here) and enter your email address, to show us that you are licensed. You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive. The update of your account may take up to one hour. Thank you. :p  |

Since when do we bring anyone to court?
Don't we just execute those people and afterwards it's not worth to bring them to court anymore? ^^ |

Haha, very funny :P. I am taking you to court for slander o_0 lol. ~curt |
Go ahead sue me, all your gonna get is a 24 pack of Mt Dew. ^^
|
You could always add it as an optional in usercp - display you licence status - default = no.
I find that (automated ?) post [You are currently showing up as unlicensed] extremely irritating all over the place - and doesn't it go against what all the staff have just said about keeping peoples licence status private ??? - why not just PM it to members instead. I have seen people say "I am unlicensed ....." and get that message as a reply. I even saw someone in the Pre-sales forum state - "before i buy a licence can i ask something" - and get that stupid bloody message as their reply. |
It's not really automated.
When a user is unlicensed we get a special link to click and the the message area is prefilled with that text, but it can be manipulated before sending :) and as said, that policy is made by Jelsoft, not by vbulletin.org, so ... ;) |
Yea, well most of the time you can tell, if they post a looking for hack..in suggestions..or say I cant dl attachments..then there unlicensed..( although I did tell a guy a few days ago who couldnt dl attachments..I said your showing up as unlicensed blah blah blah...but it got deleted..and then a moderator posted same thing I did :-D hahah )
~Curt |
well, just officials should use that message, so it keeps an official charakter ;)
|
yep :). officials>bigcurt haha :P.
