I dont understand why attachments show if the install button hasnt been selected. I understand that some screen shots are attached at times but other then that, its just letting people get the code without clicking install.

locking down the install button might be a good idea.
|
For more accurate install numbers, it would be. Shouldnt be too hard to implement either.
|
Maybe if there is some way to show screenshots but not other attachments this would be great
|
Thats simple to implament. Thats what i have done at my site www.vbhackers.com. Members there can see screenshots, reply to post, ect.. They just have to click the install button in order to download any other attachments.

In my opinion, clicking install before the code is actually installed and working is wrong. Let's say I post some code with some awesome sounding feature name. 300 people want that awesome feature and click install to download it. Turns out, my code really doesn't do the awesome thing it says it does. It has bugs and glitches. And, just for giggles, say I never fix the 10 pages of bug reports that get posted.
New guy comes along who doesn't read the thread. Sees 300 installs and things AWESOME! and grabs the code. Of course, he has problems too. And, he still doesn't read the thread. He just slaps his own problem report on the end. And so the next guy comes along and the cycle continues. The moral of the story is click the install button when the code is installed and it WORKS. 8 people clicked install on a mod I released a little while back. The install directions were missing a critical step, but I assumed all was well because 8 people had successfully installed, right? ;) Amy |
Those users that clicked install should know how to click uninstall if the hack isn't working and the author doesn't update...
|
Why? They don't know how to read. :D

My passive agressive way to get that button clicked is to not post upgrade notices in the thread when possible but only through the emails sent by the update feature linked to the install button :D |

Paul is one that doesnt. We are talking about people getting credit for their hard work and its important. |
uhm that would boost my mods installs, but would boost others aswell... nah
I still think the install button should be "Im using this mod" or something and sometimes I just want to look at the code to see how the mod was done |
corriewf, you see how many things I have released here. Yes, I believe credit is nice. But, I guess I don't want to force people to give me that credit. I want them to give it willingly. It means more that way - at least to me.

well, i have downloaded lots of hacks without really installing them.
just to look at the code, amybe test it before i decided that i don't really need it... we won't force anyone to click install. it's a service and a gesture, but not a requirement. |

It is called 'Install' and not 'Downlaod' for a reason. ;)
