THE 56k
This style is optimised for 56k users and is entirely greyscale.
With exception of post icons, the style contains no 'colour' whatsoever. It runs around 30-40% faster than the default skin (maybe more) and it doesn't look like s+++. AND it comes fully loaded with power windows and anti-lock breaks. 1. Import the XML 2. Upload the folder named "56k" to forums/images And to show you how I roll, you can remove the skin copyright. =) "KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD!" |

If theres a demo, it would be great. We could test the speeds, although as has been mentioned, I'm not sure if the speed would be any different. All images seem present.
You do decrease image size slightly without color, but I wouldnt have thought it would make a noticable difference. Looks good though, almost Sin City esque.. |

Most of the bandwidth in a forum is from the load of the html code
The images are load one time and after all is stored in cache (generally) I think a true theme for 56k is composed with less images (or see here, with less sized imgs), and with some cutted code and options (WYSIWYG, and other types of code that only eat bandwidth for 56k or less users) :) |

Brinnie, do you have this skin for 3.0.x? I'd like to install it on my board right now, but I'm not going to use 3.5.x until it's released as a point version and others have had it up for awhile.

You need to remove the thumbs.db files from the archive. It'll cutdown the size of it. They're only for showing thumbs in windows explorer.

This really shouldn't be called a "56k" style. Seeing as the images are greyscaled and that is the only change, it is just a normal style. (It's nice, but not any better for 56k'ers than the default style.)
A real 56k style would replace most of the statusicons and buttons with text, elminate the gradients and use just color, and use the stylesheet to define styles as much as possible (dont use the style attribute). |
I really like this skin (ok so it doesn't take any real skill to make bfoot, so what?) but you definitely need to leave at least the online/offline icons in colour. At the moment online/offline show up with identical icons, not much use!
