Life sux... I'm a n00b :(

I just installed the Add User to Primary Usergroup Based on the Value of a Custom Profile Field at Reg. mod and it didn't work! :(

I registered a test account and chose the option "male" as directed in the in instructions, but it stayed in the same group :(

I uploaded this XML:
Quote:

<plugins>
<plugin active="1" product="vbulletin">

Put User In User Group Based on Field Value

<hookname>register_activate_process</hookname>
<phpcode>// Get the value for field 5
$user = $db->query_first("
SELECT field5
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "userfield
WHERE userid = " . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] . "
");

if ($user['field5'] == 'male')
{
$userdata->set('usergroupid', 12);
}</phpcode>
</plugin>
</plugins>
Please help :(

You should post this in the actual hack thread, that is where support for hacks is given. :)

No, he didn't.

He told you you ask your more generic question here. This is not the same question. This is a problem with a specific hack you have installed, and you therefore need support on. Nothing confusing, just common sense. :)

no, it IS very confusing!! :confused:

I asked Amy if her mod did what I was trying to do and Devil told me I was posting in the wrong forum.

since i was asking about her mod and he sent me here, I ussumed all mod inquires went here.

Now you tell me that's not confusing! :confused:

F.O.B.!!

You guys were giving me the run around anyway... Talk about "post in the right thread" and "hoo hoo, how did you speeak to teh devil guy?"... Like you we're gonna help me. You don't know or you would have posted it.

But unlike at invision, you guys are ++++ing pricks.

And you want to talk about my attitude? Look at yourself.

I never get this kind of runnaround on Invisionize. Now can you direct me to the n00b friendly vB support board where elitists don't MOCK people who need help for no reason?

I just find it increadibly amazing how yall can politely direct people to the correct forum, to the search feature, to vBulletin.com and to the FAQ, but that it...

Guest190829 07-15-2005 05:36 AM

Brinnie it's important to understand that we are giving our free time, trying to help you. Paul directed you to the right forum, because that's where you will get the answers to your question the fastest. How can some members help you on hack that they haven't installed, or even looked at? Don't you think it'd be reasonable to ask in the thread of the hack? I see that you already posted in the specific thread, now it's best to wait patiently untill Amykhar sees it, and helps you with your question. :)

I understand, but your boy there talks about my attitude as if... Look. I have NEVER got any help here. EVER. It's like, why does friggin vBulletin.com keep sending me here?!

It's amazing how "coders" are so quick to politely send you to the right forum, the search feature, vbulletin.com, the faq or Google and are the first to point out how terrible of inquiry you made, but nothing else. :(

But thank you for your unsarcastic kindness... It didn't go unnoticed. Not this tim, or the time before. :)

And another thing. I wasn't even talking to that guy and he's all like, "Good luck, Bye." Well then just go. No need to be mean. I'm already ++++ing pissed. When is it enough?

But that's just people these days. When they see someone down, they like to kick them down further. People these days don't arent sympathetic to circumstance and don't understand that everyone is who they are for a reason. oh well. Life sux as a n00b. :(

The question you asked in one of the threads was nothing to do with the functionality of the hack you posted in...

Thats why I told you to post in here to get an answer to that question - The current question you asked relating to that hack should be asked in the hack thread...

It may seem very confusing, but it makes sense - If you have a question that relates to the hack or plugin, you ask it in that thread - If not, you ask it in here ;)

Satan

Brinnie, take it down about 10 notches and you will be more likely to get the help you need. All you have done since you arrived here is stomp your feet and yell that nobody is answering your questions.

Two things to note. Your questions aren't always clear and somebody has tried to answer you each and every time.

Again, I don't know that. I see people mocking me for not knowing...

But I've had some sleep and I'm willing to give it another shot. :ermm:

Christine 07-15-2005 09:49 PM

Brinnie,

Let me fill ya in a bit about these forums. Maybe that will help. :)

vBulletin.com is the main site where vBulletin is purchased and supported. They are now in a beta phase, which means that all support goes through their forums, typically answered by members if vB team members don't get there first.

vBulletin can't support boards that have hacks installed as they have no idea what code has been added/removed from the system. If you are going to hack your board, you will not be able to get support from vBulletin.com. Their role is to support the software they wrote -- they can't be omnipotent as to what every Joe Hack and Geek Mack have done to it.

Here on vBulletin.org, you have people who are volunteering their time to provide the community with modifications. These folks are not vBulletin employees, they are members just like you and I. If a vBulletin employee releases a hack here, they are doing that as a member, not as a representative of vBulletin.

There is no guaranteed support for hacks. Some hack authors have more time to support their hacks, and quite honestly, as a member since the second day this place opened, I can say that Amykhar is among the best of the best. There is no official 'support' forum here for hacks, all hacks are supported in their respective threads by their respected authors.

Beta 4 has *just* been released, which means that the hackers here are working on testing their mods to make sure that they are still working with the new code.

This is a community about sharing, not a community about demands.

Now, you have been all over vBulletin.com and vBulletin.org going in 20 directions at once and having conniptions if someone doesn't answer your question immediately. Please realize that this isn't a time of stable releases where everyone is in chat mode -- it is a time of code overhauls where people are trying to get up to speed as quickly as they can.

Switching to decaf may help, BTW. ;)

One other thing -- cussing at people and insulting them is going to get you no where and fast. Had you talked to the members on my board like that, I would have banned your butt for personal attacks and not looked back.

Have a nice weekend. :)
