Blam Forumz 07-06-2005 11:42 AM

woot, finally olympics in my city :D

Tony G 07-06-2005 11:47 AM

I was kinda hoping it was France. Oh well.

We have the Commonwealth Games here next year, should be good. :D

Azhrialilu 07-06-2005 11:53 AM

I'm so glad I don't live in London anymore :D

Athough.... if the olympics were still held the way they originally were - naked gladiators competing .. and they all were bronzed adonises (similar in physique to the luscious Batista from WWE) then I might be inclined to move back there ;)

Seriously though - Do you realise how much hosting the games is going to cost us? BILLIONS of pounds of money that could be better spent on our roads, hospitals or schools...

It's only for 2 weeks, you'll live. ;) I have to put up with foriegners next year though, thanks for reminding me. >___<

Chris M 07-06-2005 11:57 AM

As long as they stay away from me they shall remain bullet-free ;)

Surely being hellsatan and God (according to numerous posts ;) ) you shouldn't need bullets or is that simply for the fun element?

jugo 07-06-2005 12:15 PM

New York City could have really used the Olympics this time.

Tony G 07-06-2005 12:32 PM

The fact that the Olympics have been in the US so often over the last few decades, they didn't deserve it again at all.

the money means global regeneration for london, yes it costs but the bulk goes into providing facilities that will be long used after the olympics, for me it's a fantastic thing and the regeneration will be worth the celebrations seen at trafalgar square alone.

But that is exactly the kinds of things that money will be spent on. Take my word for it. I live in Atlanta, I saw it first hand. The whole place goes nuts with improvements trying to make everything better (not just stadiums and whatnot) before the mass influx of tourist come in. Roads will get fixed, don't worry.

Marco van Herwaarden 07-06-2005 01:29 PM

Tony Blair should not 'give the olympics away' to a country in africa that need this boost for their econimy more . :D :D

This is the UK - Roads have needed to be fixed for the last 15 or more years - So far about 5% of the roads have been re-surfaced, the rest are like minature obstacle courses in some places, and are left to become run-down and potholes are allowed to develop...

Bullets, apple pips, ball bearings... Whatever :p As long as its fun and causes pain I'll do it ;)

But you are right - I need not do it, I just want to for the hell of it :D

Yes the sports facilities will be used for countless sports, all worshiped by the mindless masses... How much better we will be for promoting and encouraging the lager lout to go to a more upmarket piss-up...

Within 5 years after the Olympics the state of these "new facilities" will be on par with council flats or sub-urban slums that exist already, with grafiti, and countless areas suffering from drug-related littering i.e. needles...

All this will accomplish is something new for the average idiot British citizen to trash :(

London is a dirty city, I'd rather it have gone to Paris. We can't even cope with congestion as it is in the city, think what it's going to be like in 2012 with all the foreigners and athletes going everywhere...

Atleast it will be fast traffic with it being olympics.

Corriewf 07-06-2005 08:52 PM

I hate london and never even seen it.

Paul M 07-06-2005 09:44 PM

I hate London as well, and such a shame we beat Paris eh ....... ;) :)

angelicGrace 07-06-2005 11:37 PM

Ok seriously I live in Atlanta. The deap, dirty south. Nothing here was pretty or nice to look at. It took the Olympics to clean this darn town and state up in the first place.

and for whomever said London was dirty and they would rather it go to Paris - Cause Paris is clean? We are talkin the city that the torrist areas are ok, but the rest of the town literaly has garbage collecting in the streets. (No i haven't seen it for myself, but I somehow don't see the 80 person's who went my senior year in high school all coming home and telling the same lie).

If Paris got the Olympics, I assume they would have fixed that up, as you said how the Olympics fixed Atlanta.

angelicGrace 07-07-2005 01:32 AM

I would hope. Not that Atlanta had trash pileing in the streets, just poor roads and sporting facilities. But the same should be said for whatever dirtyness that whomever said London has. I am sure it will be cleaned up as part of the prep from the games.

Tony G 07-07-2005 01:44 AM

I can't see Paris as being a place of trash, poor roads and facilities all together. It's a major tourist attraction, they'd at least have decent roads and things like hospitals etc.

angelicGrace 07-07-2005 01:56 AM

Just cause you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. NYC is a major torrist attraction yet their streets still have pot holes and there are how many homeless person's living on their sidewalks and in their allys. A city only has so much money and things always get put on the back burner. You can't afford everything so to speak. It has been my experience that this particular issue is more universal than most would care to admit.

Twice in the same country over the last 20 years. Happaned with any other countries on that list? You can sit there and decide that for yourself as you've chosen to ignore the gist of my comment.

I said last few decades, not ever.

There's something off with that list, I know for a fact that Lillehammer, Norway had the Winter Olympics in 1994. Or are you talking about something else? :ermm:

Tony G 07-07-2005 11:15 AM

We're talking about the Summer Olympic Games..

Chris M 07-07-2005 12:59 PM

Yeh - The Winter Olympics are usually held in cold places, like Canada, Alaska, Iceland etc...

Well you just proved your point. The whole of London is dirty and horrible, even the main tourist areas. I would say there is one area in London which is now ok, and that's because it literally is an exclusive area where you have to have a pass to enter to the complex, is Greenwich by Canary Wharf. Aside from that, it's horrible for miles around.

angelicGrace 07-07-2005 05:21 PM

I am taking it you have seen this with your own eyes. You might be totaly correct even if you haven't seen. But somehow that isn't the story my Brit best friend tells. Nor was in the case in the images pouring out of the UK after this mornings gastly attacks on them.

So often being all of twice? Which is what I pointed out... so...

If they got it again it would be in 2012 which is plenty fair imo.

Don't hate ;)

Tony G 07-08-2005 02:29 AM

For the olympics, yes, it's a lot if a country gets it twice in 20 years. The olympics only happen 5 times in 20 years. So yes, it is "often"
