Style of the month
 

I think that alot of people are looking for styles to spruce up their vb boards. So could we have a style of the month like a hack of the month? Hopefully this would make more people release their styles.

I used to do a 'Template of the month' competition at vBT back when it was successful as the one I did at vBT died out quickly. :p It included styles, but this might be more successful. Although, not many people opt to release their styles for free. It was amazing how many we got in the vB3 Style forum.

well to tell you the truth, not many would enter this because many would feel that they are being tricked out of doing free work and release it to the public and get nothing back in return, and some may think that why should they do this if they could easily make some profit out of the styles that they make. It's interesting that many feel this way (you may call me ignorant/something like that but most agree) and yet it is funny that how we see so many contributions in the hack sections by many programmers and almost no contributions for good skins.

Looking at it at another point, I am actually releasing couple of my vbulletin styles with my new site, so if you guys got this going, I'll be more than happy to enter a few nice designs for the public.

i'd say template mod of the month rather than style.

But then again, a hack can be very simple or very complicated. But a style is always a big undertaking to make, release, and support, at least in the form that most styles seem to come out it (including alot of custom image work and html).

We did have template of the month on vBt, but not for very long. I won the contest one month way back then and I don't remember it ever begin done again after that.

Those designers should take an example to the coders releasing a lot of work for free. :D

Or they could just release styles for the joy of having others like their work enough to use it themselves.

I personally don't need anything more than that.

Also you can see free released work as advertisement for your payed work.

This can be true for a hack or anything else for that matter. Prime example: vBadvanced CMPS.

And some people are just compulsive Button-Clickers.

That is one of the reasons i have to reinstall my wifes pc every month. But she learned, now she just stares at the screen without clicking, didn't have to reinstall for month now.

PS Some members here have also been diagnosed with this disease. But it is curable. One of the posters in this thread who had a comulsion for clicking on the "Report this Post" link, is now getting medication and as long as he takes it everyday his compulsion will be under control.

I also heard about that user, apparently the only way that they could help him was to deny him internet access for a week :o

Yes during the detoxication process we had to temporary remove his (oops a clue) internet access. But now he should be fine as long as he takes his medication.

I was thinking that vb could post the winner in a small module on the home page, so they go recognition. I am just throwing out the idea. Something I think I would take advantage of, and looks like not all but many others would as well. Just that the good old blue and white vb pages are little boring.

Also another point that I would like to mention is that many times skins/graphics in general get ripped, many remove the necessary copyrights or links that links to the author as well. I mean if you search the net a little, you could even see that many of extremepixels skins have been ripped and are shared for free by rippers, even I catched a few members here (don't want to name names) that have ripped and used my styles that were designed for my site only without permission. These things happen a lot, to almost anyone,

having some free skins available to the vbulletin community will hopefully prevent this at least some of this a little.

To give you a clue, i was talking about a poster with a high postcount and who has posted in this thread. (I think the report also add to postcount).

Disclaimer: We like people (correctly) reporting posts. It makes life a bit easier for us.

right now a style of the month contest won't be added, but if the releases will increase, we can think about it :)
