Is this person being charged in any way?

Koutaru 01-08-2004 01:31 AM

Wow is it REALLY from the attacker? Almost seems too good to be true :D though I'm glad, if it's true, that now everyone should be able to access again soon

Brad 01-08-2004 01:58 AM

I just hope he is not trying to lure them into a false scence of security, it would really suck if they took down the blocks and he started ddosing again the day vB 3 gold was released.

sonic3d 01-08-2004 01:59 AM

when will I have access to vb.com if the attacks stop?

Well, surely, there MUST be some sort of justice for something like this if he/she continues.

RandyP3 01-08-2004 12:01 PM

Woot, go! :D Although, dDoS attacks are the most easy of web-loopholes, so ... yeah. I hope he doesn't do anything else, although.. :$ I gotta say, the apology note doesn't sound like its from someone who could do dDoS attacks :p

iyouth 01-08-2004 07:52 PM

You'd be surprised how little knowledge it takes for someone to DDOS someone..

From a story I've read.. some 13 year old met a hacker over IRC and the hacker pretty much told him "To attack someone, go to this IRC room, type this command and their IP and press enter"

The person didn't even know how it worked to attack someone, but he did it successfully many times (very similar to vB's case)

I think someone on #vborg sent me the story.. :p

Regards,
Patrick

Tony G 01-08-2004 09:37 PM

Wow, I didn't know it was that easy. O_O

They found him, down to his address. Steve says, though, that the FBI wouldn't do a damned thing about it.

Of course, they are more worried about nocking someones door in and seizing all his stuff...unrelated..

Anyway IMO that just gose to show how great americain law can be. Did you know if you rob a house in the USA but that wasent your intention when you broke in that you will see NO JAIL TIME (for robbery)?.

Tony G 01-09-2004 07:49 AM

It just goes to show that people can get away with these things. And it's worrying, because people in the future will do this, and may never be caught.

To be fair, though, the person in question was in China, which, not only being outside US law, is notorious for not enforcing its own Internet law, when it even exists.

Brad 01-09-2004 11:20 AM

well you did'nt mention that, of course nothing is going to happen to him if he is in china.

RandyP3 01-09-2004 11:34 AM

Aah, that kinda explains the english then ;) :p Puzzles me how someone all the way there would want to dDoS on vb. *shrugs*

Tony G 01-09-2004 11:38 AM

Some people don't need reasons to do things like that.

The person is not in China. Please don't try and disseminate opinions as facts when you know little or nothing of the actual details.

TGD 01-09-2004 08:50 PM

man that totally sucks..why do people do these things

I was running off a post (which no, I don't have the link at hand) made by a Jelsoft team member.

Although I stand by my comment about their Internet law enforcement, with which surely you can agree.

I belive this thread has gone on long enough, im closing it as the sister sites have done.
