Free templates - NOT $40+!

hey guys. are any of you thinking about making or know of any free templates sites where users/people can simply download amazing looking skins for their sites? I want to have a graphical forum, but i dont know anything about coding them!

Can anyone link me to some free graphical skins for VB3?

MindTrix 11-14-2003 05:12 PM

How about this site? Theres vB2 and vB3 skins released here for free.

Zachery 11-14-2003 06:58 PM

ive made some, :) there released here

idwf 11-14-2003 08:02 PM

yeah...but they are not graphical ones.

I want a decent graphical style, so i can learn from the code. For example, the header. Im rubbish with headers (as you can tall from my forums), i would like to install a decent header system tbh.

Zachery 11-14-2003 08:06 PM

graphical? wtf do you call having windows xp start bar,?

my style is very grapical, i dont belive you know what your talking about as you cant even code somthing like it

Tony G 11-15-2003 10:45 AM

Free and amazing don't go well together. Appreciate what styles you can actually get for free, first of all.

There are some nice graphical (in my opinion) released on this site, you just have too look ;)

Look at the attached screenshot, and do the same yourself yet choose the last option -- The beginnin

Do this in the style's release forum and you will see alot more styles that have been released, and some are really nice. If you dont like them, then your loss :p lol

Dave Lianelli 11-15-2003 07:58 PM

You will not learn vB template-coding for graphical styles, you'll learn more from coded styles. Just take a look at older posts and keep digging in the vBulletin templates. You'll eventually find out how everything works. It's the way I learned it, though I bought a style...

assassingod 11-15-2003 08:50 PM

Faranth, he means graphical as in WiredGamer, YaXaY and AlienSoup. Heavy of graphics is probably what he meant

Zachery 11-15-2003 09:32 PM

i dont think your going to find anything even remotly like that here >.> or free

yeah. thats what i meant.

+ if i cant find anything like that for free, how much can i expect to find someone who will design me my own personal forums, based on my sites design and ensure that its origional and that they dont sell it to anyone else.

Remember, im only a kid with simple pleasures. For all you pro designers, it wouldnt even take you more than 2 hours to create me the entire forums. I just really want a header, can i buy just a header for my forums? That would be better tbh

Dave Lianelli 11-16-2003 08:44 AM

Magik, to make a full style will take longer then 2 hours. And I think you can not even afford it, Yaxay ie. cost over $4000 I believe, and WiredGamers is even more expensive. Check www.ravio.com thats the designer of those forums.

assassingod 11-16-2003 09:04 AM

Just to add on the ravio.com link, don't buy skins from there - Recently the creator has been taking money but not giving the styles (I'm not sure if that was sorted out or not(

**** that takes the P!**

That just deters people from buying from other sites and bla blah.

That alien soup site is brilliant though, i checked it out a long time ago. Plus the people who made the skin dont charge too much i dont believe. Not too sure though

idwf 11-17-2003 06:11 AM

whoa! $4000! no way man! lol.

urm, well I think I'll just stick to my forums lookin crap! lol thanks anyway guys!

Brad 11-17-2003 06:59 AM

So you are giving up because you cant find a style like that for free?. That is your problem right there, learn how to code styles like that on your own. The internet is full of sites that will teach you, and the bookstore is full of books that will teach you also.

Tony G 11-17-2003 10:28 AM

It's either $4000 or taking the time to learn. ^^

idwf 11-17-2003 02:21 PM

well, i would learn, if i knew how!

Look at my site, i was a total n00b to all this stuff, and I've learn how to make php and html stuff (www.indeathwefall.co.uk), but forums are a total new thing to me! I'll need some links and stuff before attemptin to make stuff. also, theres graphics. I'll need to learn how to REALLY use my photoshop! I've got so many good ideas for forums in my head, but when it comes to making them, man, i just dont know!
-I know its a bad excuse, but my school is taking up 5 days of my week, work another one, i just have evenings and that single day to actually work and learn it!

But, if someone could link me to some good tutorials and stuff, it'd be GREAT!

As i said, i only really wanna learn how to make a header atm.

RixiuS 11-18-2003 12:16 AM

It's not too hard. Your template system is basically just HTML split up into many different sections. I recommend just setting up a test board to screw around with the template system and getting adjusted to it.

idwf 11-18-2003 06:02 AM

can i do that? Can i crate a second board and mess around with it?

Tony G 11-18-2003 08:45 AM

Yes, as long as it's not public.

Zachery 11-18-2003 08:56 AM

and its password protected if its on a live site

Tony G 11-18-2003 08:58 AM

This only applies to people with one license, of course.

Zachery 11-18-2003 08:59 AM

not a whole ton of ppl have more than one license

Tony G 11-18-2003 09:01 AM

Quite a few I know actually have more, but it's only something that applies for one license. So in other words Magik, one live board per license.

idwf 11-18-2003 02:25 PM

right. yeah, i got my lisence after a warning from VB. I never even knew i had to pay at first. I bought a lifetime ?100 lisence.

So, i've got my live forums at www.indeathwefall.co.uk/forums, if i wanted to have a NON live, closed except for me forums, just so i can work...what would the url have to be www.indeathwefall.co.yk/testvb ?

cdrive 11-18-2003 05:51 PM

yes that would class as a non live board if you password protect it and don't post it here ;-)

Heres a photoshop site (online class), you have to register at the site before you can take the classes but it might be wroth a look.

Also look this site over, if you havent already learn XHTML and CSS

http://www.w3schools.com/

idwf 11-18-2003 08:11 PM

thanks a lot

Cassidy 11-19-2003 10:36 PM

Uh like someone said on page 1 i think. Use the nice codes that are here at VBT and then make your own style from that.
You might be able to get someone to make the images for you but other than that, that's the best way to learn.

idwf 11-20-2003 05:28 AM

who may want to make images?

SaintDog 11-20-2003 10:26 PM

You will really need to look around. While some members and visitors may be willing to help, you cannot expect the world for free, which is basically what is being asked when looking for a style close to YaXaY or WiredGamers freely :).

I do not mean to be rude and I can understand time delays, though learning is something everyone has to deal with, to progress, you have to learn, if you are not willing to learn and help yourself, you cannot expect others to help you out.

Studying something for only an hour per day would give you a great advantage over what you already know. Most books, if you are a normal paced reader, will not take long at all to read as most books are not read front to back and all over, rather, skimed over for the details needed.

While money may be tight, the only 2 real options are to save up and have a designer do the work for you or learn via online tutorials, books, or classes (if offered locally or via the online link Brad provided you with).

Nothing is an overnight venture, while you can start overnight,m you probably won't be able to finish and should not try to. Rushing to do one thing in a day, week, or month when you may regret it later is no way to work! :).

i thought i'd but in as the voice of clairty :D

yaxay is a www.ravio.com skin where as wiredgamers and aliensoup were done by www.insidethepixel.com

however i don't actually think you're right about the wired gamers price considering the fact that he's got a very similar skin retailing for what i beleive this gentleman wanted to spend or not spend $40 named the Geltech skin, go take a look ;) and i know you're wrong about the yaxay skin as that covered alot more than just forum images :)

as for ravio aint got a clue how work is coming along but they've got that (imo) ugly new design up so i would imagine he's reapplied himself to his business.

i personally prefer insidethepixel for skins but i think ravio got the talent for logo's it's a shame it all went pear shaped as i thought they worked well together but good luck sorting everything out :)

oh well can't sleep and got a pocket full of pennies, good luck :)

idwf 11-21-2003 08:53 PM

yeah. thanks guys.

I think i will attempt to learn. :)

Im just trying to understand how VB actually works before designing anything. I've just set up a test forums, and will now attempt to mess and play with it!

again, thanks for all your help!

-Dave
