What Should Be Added To vBT?

Ok, I know you all have a few ideas and now is the time to place them to use :); I want to know what you would like to see happening here at vBulletinTemplates.

We have over 11,000 members here at vBT and we need to get things moving and more active. Feel free to make your suggestions freely and openly, I would like to hear from everyone that will take the time to post their suggestions!

From new forums, contests, and more -- let them rip!

So come on, let's here them! :)

Tony G 08-22-2003 10:52 PM

Contest, yeah. We need another one running. I can run the vB Template of the month again, but we never got around to adding the winning image to any of the threads. So nobody wanted to join in the contest.

SaintDog 08-22-2003 11:08 PM

Well, I have 2 people in mind for sponsorships, of which will be contacted soon enough in regards to contests.

How about other things? Forums? Anything goes with suggestions (within reason of course :))

Michael2 08-23-2003 01:00 AM

Since this forum is 'sponsored' by vBulletin what would really help is if they'd just redirect their templates forum over here (like they do with vBulletin.org). Half the time they tell people to check over here anyway.

SaintDog 08-23-2003 03:53 AM

It would be nice and I have spoken to John Percival about it, though, it would be a huge pain to merge the threads and posts over. I am going to contact him again later on about it, but it would be a lot of work which the dev's don't really have time for right now since vBulletin 3.0 is in beta.

Tony G 08-23-2003 04:37 AM

Would be a pain, but yeah, they should do the same thing for templates as they do for hacks. Although some people opposed the idea when it first came up over there.

Brad 08-23-2003 05:26 AM

If anyone has any idea's for the portal speak up now, im in the process of coding it, it's taking longer then expected because I have lost my work twice due to a crash and forgetting to save it before I shut down

Tony G 08-23-2003 09:16 AM

Oh, you doing a portal for vBT now? :)

Not something you want in the same sentence mate ;) lol

Dan 08-23-2003 10:26 AM

how about a style with better buttons... I can't tell what half of them do now that they all look to much the same and are hard to read. I miss the vBt style from 2.x.x

Mone' 08-23-2003 11:24 AM

Saintdog i would like to see..........

- a few more style to choose from.
- A portal would be great ( I know has been worked on )
- Contest are also good
- separate admin cp css for vb 3 and vb 2
- a tutorial system once the portal is up

not much more that i can think of right now ;)

Miko

Tony G 08-23-2003 11:39 AM

I wouldn't mind the old vBT 2.2.x style ported! :)

Zachery 08-23-2003 01:32 PM

i agree some type of front page would be nice :D

i did like some of the old styles :D

i love these buttons i dont understand how they can be hard to read... im lookin at them at 1600X1200 :\

maybe a chatroom kinda like vb.org has.. :D

a nice pm bar that blinks with a new post ive always loved that :D

N9ne 08-23-2003 08:36 PM

MAJOR template modification on this forum. I understand that vB3 is still in beta stages but in all honesty this place should always look very modified as that's what it's all about, template modification. vb.org has millions of hacks installed and that's what its purpose is.

I'd also enjoy seeing some more stylesets, with different colours schemes, etc. maybe using the child/parent style system in vB3 so you only need to modify templates for the main style and the changes are effective for all colour schemes.

Definitely try and get into contact with the main authorities of vb.org/.com to get them just to link to vBT for template forums.

Contest would be very nice but should definitely be related to posting and modifying of vBulletin-templatewise.

More activity in the lounge, making that place active will encourage more people into the forum, the lounge is always important.

Something needs to be done about stylesets and button sets. Not enough are being put up for free anymore and I know that's no one's fault specifically but for the sake of vBT, I think some people should team up and get to work on some styles and buttonsets to post here, that will draw in more activity too, guaranteed.

Just my 2 cents :).

We already have one.

http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...ead.php?t=4036

On the same server as the vB.org one, but no java client as of yet.

Dan 08-24-2003 12:00 AM

we need to find a java client though that would get us more people i would think

Tony G 08-24-2003 12:11 AM

Yeah, seems like all the regulars have ditched the channel. =/

Honestly,

I think we need to add at least one new forum, general html/css/javascript. Alot of questions are not vB orianted and are just questions about that general stuff. it would also allow disscussion about new standards etc.

SaintDog 08-24-2003 03:55 AM

More Styles & Modified Board:

Well, while I would love to add a few more styles, unless donated by the style designers or myself, there is little way to purchase them since vBT has zero income and does not receive donations of any form. If we were to receive a few style donations, I would gladly add them :).

As for the modified board, while I can agree to this, should much else be done, it will be done to either only the main, or the main and one other as hacks apply to the forum in whole, template modifcations have to be ported over bit by bit and one by one; not only more time consuming, but much more work.

vBT Portal & Main Page:

Yes, Brad has volunteered his time to work on a portal for vBT's use. There is no exact date of the release for the portal, though I am sure brad could provide more information. I ask that you please do not PM or e-mail him about it unless he asks :).

New Forum Additions:

A general HTML and coding forum would be great and is being considered now as per the suggestion that was made. I believe plenty of questions are asked about such that would warrant such, though with limited support.

Contests & Give-Aways:

As said before, I have 2 people I am in contact with and a few more to follow about this, what will be the outcome I am not sure of at this time. As contest prizes are available, contests will be run and announced.

If you can think of anything else, please feel free to bring it forward! :)

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Tony G 08-24-2003 05:48 AM

General Coding Forum, like vB.org General Hacking but keep out the support questions about vB in there. The forum at vB.org is really a mix of general discussion about code and vB code, and support. Needs a better moderation and setup then that. :)

(That was in response to a General HTML and coding forum ;))

Zachery 08-27-2003 05:44 AM

i know it was stated but i really think we should be linked from vb.com

Im building a java chat cleint into the portal :). I debating on it begin on a seprate page or in a pop up windows so you could chat and surf the board at the same time.

Zachery 08-27-2003 05:57 AM

either works for me, your actually building the java client?

Brad 08-27-2003 06:07 AM

I dont do java, just loading a free script dynamicly, probbly the same one as vborg if I cant find any better.

Zachery 08-27-2003 06:14 AM

i wish i had vb.orgs version ... its awsome

Tony G 08-27-2003 07:28 AM

There was a hack that did that as well as list everyone in the room on the forum page. Very neat, saw it on a vB3 too.

Mone' 09-05-2003 05:04 AM

Looking forward to see all the new features :)

the one that vbulletin.org use is eIRC

Bad Bunny 09-06-2003 04:41 AM

I am always having to get up close to read the buttons. Tiny pixel fonts with no icons is not exactly what I would call user frioendly...but to each their own.

Tony G 09-06-2003 04:45 AM

Pixel font seems to cause alot of trouble with readability. I know we had the same problem over at BBAdmins.

Mone' 09-06-2003 05:38 AM

i agree with the pixel font as much as i like them but for some reason they seems harder to read on this buttons

apart fo that i really like how clean is this style :) well done saintdog
