Will you upgrade to vB 3 gold when it is released?

Now that everyone has had a chance to play with beta 3 I thought it would be a good idea to post this poll. So, based on what you have seen in the beta's, will you be upgrading your board to vB 3 final (gold) when it is released?

Mr. HillBilly 06-24-2003 11:20 PM

Yes, once all the bugs are smashed

SaintDog 06-24-2003 11:27 PM

I like it as well as I can, but I would prefer to edit it down to that of vB 2 as I find it a bit crowded right now.

Tony G 06-24-2003 11:35 PM

I would like to view the new template system first, whenever that is released. But I wouldn't stay on a beta so I'd upgrade. :p

imported_Keyser S?ze 06-25-2003 12:18 AM

the admin cp is real crowded and needs some work, nothing worse than having to scroll over constantly to see the other items on the screen

but regaurdless i will still upgrade and hope things improve even more, i like vb3

Tony G 06-25-2003 12:28 AM

The CP is fine to me besides for those few little things you mentioned, I don't find them a big problem. But as long as the bugs go, I'll be happy.

SaintDog 06-25-2003 01:02 AM

In a higher res. scrolling does not seem to exist :).

Tony G 06-25-2003 02:28 AM

I never had it, only for some parts. (Eg. the top where it has the version, link to forumhome etc.)

Thats the only area I have problem with, and the template editor only a bit.

Brad 06-25-2003 02:46 AM

I love the new template editor, ill admit it needs some work but so far its been a smooth ride for me.

Tony G 06-25-2003 03:58 AM

Alot more organised then the vB2 one, thats for sure.

filburt1 06-25-2003 01:59 PM

Not until 3.0.2.

Dan 06-25-2003 04:36 PM

I'm already using the beta so why not?

I wouldnt use vB3 BETA on a live board.

Dan 06-25-2003 07:02 PM

why wouldn't YOU?.... I'm using it right now because I have a SMALL board

SaintDog 06-25-2003 07:05 PM

personal preference?

Seriously, beta is not really suitable for live boards and is not meant for such. If you are the type that loves to upgrade a great deal, beta in a live environment is for you, if not, then wait it out ;).

Rufus69 06-25-2003 07:24 PM

Feh, the only problem I've had to this date is the add a new bbcode thing, and I fixed it..So why not use it? We only have like 5 or 6 active members.

The only reason not to use it is un-resolved bugs and im sure alot will change before gold, if you are willing to deal with that and stay up to date with the beta's and RC's then there is no reason not to use it.

hellsatan 06-25-2003 08:02 PM

My board is vB3 beta 3, and will be updated to beta 4 and RCs and Gold:)

I have made very few modifications:)

Whether its a large or small board, I would say using vB3 BETA is a bad idea. For one thing, the number of bugs.

Rufus69 06-25-2003 08:27 PM

I haven't found one major bug. not one.

assassingod 06-25-2003 08:32 PM

Ive found 1 that can be pretty annoying.

But its still the principle, vB3 BETA3 should be tested locally rather than publicly, IMO anyway.

You're forgetting one incredibly important thing: security. As 3.0.0 will be an "initial release", tons of people will upgrade to it. That means many new bugs will be discovered, and it only takes one tiny XSS check missing to completely obliterate your board.

Brad 06-26-2003 12:02 AM

I relize that, witch is why I added this line:

if you are willing to deal with that and stay up to date with the beta's and RC's then there is no reason not to use it.

Running a beta, or a final that just has come out of beta will always be a risk. But, you know as well as I do that no software is turely bug free, and many 'tiny' XSS checks where missed in vB 2, even up to the point when 2.3.0 was released.

I agree, I don't know if a beta is really suitable for public viewing because there can be alot of user-assessable bugs. Can cause problems..

Floris 06-27-2003 10:08 AM

I run it from the private beta and up, and it has been stable since the first time I upgraded. I was suprised I didn't run in to any big problems.

It is so worth upgrading to any beta release. If you want to wait for the gold, don't ! Get the RC1 as soon as it gets out. I am sure it is near perfection.

dstruct2k 07-09-2003 07:14 PM

Aside from the security holes, glitches, errors, and mistakes...

But I would have to agree with the general concensus. A beta is well worth upgrading to if you have the time to take care of it. I, for one, won't have time until the middle of next month, so... That's when I'm gonna learn how to operate vB3 properly. :D

SaintDog 07-09-2003 09:43 PM

I can honestly say, I don't think there has been ANY security holes found, rather, just minor file errors. The betas are safe to use at this point and I would see no reason not to upgrade at the beta 4 point.

Judging from vBulletin.com, some people make the small glitches and bugs into a really big deal. Depends on how you treat small bugs...

Brad 07-10-2003 02:41 AM

Acully, if they havent already, I would say wait til beta 5 gets released to update the live boards.

I looked myself out of my beta 4 admin cp cause I left some flawed php code in the phpinclude template and let my session expire. Had to comment out the whole block for phpinclude in the global.php file before I could re-login ;).

Tony G 07-10-2003 05:04 AM

Hearing all these rumours that Beta 5 is soon, maybe another 2 weeks between the beta again? :p

Bad Bunny 07-10-2003 07:11 AM

The massive amounts of new features means that I don't have to hack, since it does what I require without hacking now (Love the templating!)

So, for me it was features over small annoyances that may be found.

imported_Synicide 07-15-2003 12:54 AM

I've had really no problem doing an upgrade, and I am very happy with the beta. I mean, I am having a good time playing around with all this, and my members love the new version as well.

I will go gold when it comes out too.

Especially the if commands. Brilliant things for templates. :D

Cassidy 07-19-2003 07:26 PM

I'm on Beta 4 & I can't wait to upgrade so I can install some hacks. Though I hope I can port my current VBB3 style >.< took me ages to make!

Tony G 07-19-2003 11:06 PM

It shouldn't be too hard since the templates are still very similar to the vB2 in the vB3 Beta stages.

Yeah I hope your right ^__^ and it gives me a chance to make a new one!

*Is dieing to get some hacks installed*

Dan 07-21-2003 07:35 PM

The only thing I have installed are VERY simple template mods and changed the header and footer so I shouldn't be screwed up much :)

(besides waiting for fury to update his shoutbox to the new betas and RC's)

On top of that I've installed a few forum home template mods..

imported_S.Shady 07-23-2003 04:10 PM

i will be upgrading to vb3 gold :)

i have installed acouple little template edits. but i have powerd my site through vb :)

BSFMike 07-23-2003 04:27 PM

I don't know much about the new vB, but why wouldn't you upgrade to it? A newer version, fixed bugs, better stuff. As I said, I don't know much about it, but I'll probably upgrade to it once it comes out.
