vb3 style release, who will be 1st?

who will be first to release a vb3 style, me and a friend are working on one but this is like completely diffrent and i just got it today so may take a while

need my secret decoder ring, where did i put it...

assassingod 06-13-2003 11:50 PM

Finished mine. Though it will be pointless releasing it since the currenty vB3 style is only temporary.

The new style will be released with the RC

Tony G 06-13-2003 11:53 PM

I'd recommend no styles are released for the beta. The templates can still undergo large change with the upgrade to other beta's or RC's.

SaintDog 06-14-2003 12:42 PM

heh, I have done about 5 styles since, but will not release them because of the beta stages. I will be working to port vBT v1.0 over once vB 3.0 hits final, something many are asking about over and over again :).

Tony G 06-14-2003 12:55 PM

vBT 1.0 would look really nice on vB3. One of my favourite styles ever. :D

Dribbles 06-14-2003 02:18 PM

How long do you guys think until vb3 final is out? I think maybe months ... no point making new styles now, right?

Rufus69 06-14-2003 03:49 PM

Hmmm...that would be a good idea for a program, or hack, a vb2 -> vb3 style converter. :D

CannonFodder 06-14-2003 07:21 PM

i've done two so far, but they arent being released until an RC version is out.

Well, vBulletin does try to convert them, but it is near impossible unless what you have modified is something that does not change.

Tony G 06-15-2003 12:59 AM

I've already done a style with vB3, just something simple, to increase the knowledge of the new template code. And I know it'll be destroyed with newer templates, so it's only practise. :)

And also, if you did read the readme in vB3 before installing you would know that the templates are going to be the most changed thing with the newer beta's or RC's of vB3. So alot of mods, styles etc. you might do now will end up being affected.

SaintDog 06-15-2003 02:24 AM

If you want my opinion, I think the header and footer will be ok, but the rest will be modified more heavily that others, so if you are going to modify something, those 2 should be ok with fewer mods than the rest.

Tony G 06-15-2003 02:48 AM

Yeah, I wouldn't think they'd change alot either. But as long as people who are releasing mods now know that code is subject to change and may affect their mods, then everything should be fine. :)

eddieeddie 06-15-2003 03:27 AM

I just did mine http://www.grabageek.com/forums/index.php?

I only seperated catergories, if I have to re-do it it will only take 10 minutes.

I am sure there will be 500 styles just like mine soon.

Tony G 06-15-2003 03:46 AM

Ahh, the CP colors. ;)

I just put a nice grey & blue scheme on, added some images, template mods etc. took me about 20 minutes. Just practice and all. :)

eddieeddie 06-15-2003 04:19 AM

I am sure there will be a lot of people making the same or similar styles. It shouldnt take me more then 10 minutes to update it for gold, all I did was colors and seperate catergories.

eddieeddie: Can you please tell me how you did that style with ACP colors, I would like that style for my site (www.gameforums.org)?
PM or E-mail me (rasmus(a)s6x.dk), so we can talk?

Cheers

just started this one this afternoon.

still requires alot of work, such as category and table header images.

filburt1 06-16-2003 12:57 AM

I've been converting WDF locally in preperation for an eventual upgrade in a few months. It's been a real PITA for certain parts that make WDF trademark, like the custom forumbits and the shadow. The forumbits took over two hours to reimplement because I had to recode them...

Mone' 06-16-2003 01:06 AM

I think no one will release a pubblic vb3 style untill the rcvb3 is out but like many I had my go at it when i first installed it on my test site to get used to the new coding........... ;)

There will have to be some major work done to vBulletin 3.0 imo; if you shove it into 750 px, centered, it looks horrible.

CannonFodder 06-16-2003 02:26 AM

i dont like vb3 at all. only thing i like is all the admin features, dont like the admin colors, made my own cp colors. blah.

Mone' 06-16-2003 02:33 AM

let's hope that the new style set is going to be a major change
the current one is not very nice is almost to much expecially the top bar with the PM.

CannonFodder 06-16-2003 02:36 AM

eh, eddie, with your style, i'm trying to figure out why you have black borders if you were going for the admin cp style. matter of fact, the admin cp for vb3 doesnt have inner borders. bleh.

Thats all temporary, the buttons up there are temporary. I'd imagine they would lay it out outside a table, and just keep the PM there. Or like on vB2 have it's own category. That works alot better.

Rufus69 06-16-2003 02:13 PM

Or make it like my revamp. :P

Tony G 06-16-2003 10:54 PM

You'll be credited too. :D :p

Mr. HillBilly 06-17-2003 03:31 AM

So who has styles for vb3 they want to share? ;)

Tony G 06-17-2003 06:35 AM

I have one which isn't much, and I don't think it's worth releasing. A style like this one is very easy to make. With a couple of template mods and images, you're set.

How did vBT move "Forums" below "Categories" in the default theme?

/rjpa

Rufus69 06-17-2003 02:13 PM

Using the forum manager?

I wasn't too sure myself, so I didn't bother replying earlier...;)

Mr. HillBilly 06-19-2003 02:35 AM

Can't wait for you to get done with the style tony.. Please let me know when its available! :D

Tony G 06-19-2003 05:15 AM

Few things you need to realise before releasing.

-This will probably not work with future Beta's, only Beta 3.
-There will be no different banner or buttons provided. It's up to you to get those in.
-Should be done by tomorrow night.
