Where are all the members?

I noticed that there were 8000+ members on this forum...Yet there are only 3000+ threads! What is going on here! Unless most of the posters are just picking out their templates, and leaving, you really need to do something about the post count :-/

Chris Gwynne 04-04-2003 04:12 PM

Not really. It's not required that they have to post here in order to get a template, nor should it be. So the postcount is low in comparison to its members..and?

Yaxio = yaxay ...... :rolleyes:

Although, since vBT switched to vB3 I've noticed a drop in activity..

SaintDog 04-04-2003 05:31 PM

It's not vBulletin 3.0, it is the license system integration which is stopping pirates from accessing downloads and such. Not much can be done, newsletters are going to be sent out weekly and bi-weekly to keep members updated, but that is about all that can be done until I get a chance to speak with John.

Tony G 04-04-2003 10:13 PM

Yes, it's the licensing system which put down activity from pirates.

But we can still get to the way we were with a licensing system, such as like vB.org.

nuno 04-05-2003 12:21 PM

Why don't you remove the browse restrictions then?
Just set 'can download attachments' to NO, that should suffice.

curley 04-05-2003 02:31 PM

i personaly think apart from the pirates that have been stopped most people only pop in when they have a specific problem to solve regarding templates... i think you might find a sudden upsurge in posting when vb3 gets released to the masses

SaintDog 04-05-2003 03:10 PM

I guess that to is one of the problems faced, everyone wants vBulletin 3.0 (well, 90% do) and do not want to keep changing things for no reason when they will have to re-do it all for vBulletin 3.0, once released.

We shall see once vBulletin hits beta.

Yaxio 04-07-2003 07:58 PM

well saintdog, has the daily hits / requests been dropping any after the first week or so after you installed the liscense thing?

Rufus69 04-07-2003 09:34 PM

That's a good thing....that means vBT isn't helping pirates!

Not sure, I do not have access to a stats page currently (not installed once since the move to Jelsofts servers).

Tony G 04-08-2003 05:43 AM

It's most likely dropping as fewer members are appearing online. But the first week when vBT converted to vB3 there was always heaps of people online (Hit more then 1 line on the Who's online on alot of occasions)

SaintDog 04-08-2003 02:35 PM

I need to get in touch with John, but he is busier that I am right not ;).

Tony G 04-09-2003 05:12 AM

Haven't been online by myself in a while. ;)

bahawolf 04-09-2003 05:50 PM

Because less members have been on, probally shows that there was alot of pirates. Personally, Im just glad that vBT is making it harder for them... I suggessted to vB that they should need their customer number to open up the install file. Now THAT would stop alot of piracy when you consider it... ALOT.

SaintDog 04-09-2003 07:19 PM

While it would, in the same scenario it would not. It is quite easy to share the DB structure for a default install of vBulletin, hence not providing much more protection than offered right now.

I think they offer as much protection as possibly, certainly more than other bulletin board companies.

Not really, That would only deter them for a brief second. They will find a way to do it.
