Should I release the old vBT Design?
 

The subject contains the question at hand, should the old vBulletinTemplates design be released for sale to the general public? :)

If you think it should be released, please give reasoning and a general pricing you would pay if you were interested (whether you are or are not, I would still like to get a general value from the community).

I think you should release it for free.

The style probably won't be released freely, too much work has been done and still more work is to be done on it since all of it was hard coded (my mistake in the first place, so I cannot say too much).

If only the forum home was modified I would say I would, but about everything was modified, from the header and footer, forumhome, forumdisplay, FAQ, User CP, and so forth.

In all honesty - that style has served vBT very well, it is and will remain one of the most beautiful styles I have seen to date, due to its originality and uniqueness.
vBt offers template alterations, coding discussions, graphics, advise, assistance, you name it,....all for no charge. That is what vBt is all about. And that is also the major reason why there are now well over 7000 members.
In context of all of this, and in jubilation to the enormous success of vBt, it would not be right to go and charge for a style that has been in support of vBt, and has been of some influence in making it all happen. (It has already paid for itself over and over again)
As a thank you note to the many many members who have joined, and contributed to vBt, why not release the style to them - for FREE.

I don't think it should be released. I can't imagine other forums using it, I'd prefer to 'remember it' as the vBT design...

From insider information I can tell you that there's not a chance that it will be sold for free, just FYI.

If released, it will not be done so for free. I love vBulletinTemplates, doing & releasing the modifications, and helping the members, but for something such as this, it would be sold.

As before, if so little was done, then I would release it for free and think nothing else about it, but this is one of the more modified styles available, at this time.

I have been suggested prices via PM and e-mail and most seem to think a decent value is between $18-$40 per license to the style. I hardly think it would sell if priced at $40 as not many people would then be able to afford it or would want to pay that much, even at $30.

Most are content with a $20-$25 pricing range. What are the feelings on such pricing (from those that would have some interest in buying it)?

i voted no. why? - because it is a very unique design. keep it to yourself i say...

Unique, yes, but many have asked for it in the past and I personally think a new design is more suited with the release of the new vBulletin software and with the ideas I do have planned.

I think you'd be best off with the idea in the mod lounge. Would get the most money probably and we won't have to see a billion sites with the vBT look.

Yes, although it is not the money I am particularly worried about. Nothing has been said about the post, so I figured I would ask the community for their thoughts.

I had to agree to an NDA of sorts when I became a mod so no dice.

It involves the style and the sell of it, nothing much more too it :); everyone will know if it happens, most likely.

Ill always remember it as the vBT style and I think it should be kept that way.

Well, It's your choice in the end but I'd say sell it. So many people have asked for it, they can get off your back. :p

That price seems fair, and while I would honestly prefer to see it not all over the place, I may concider buying it at that price and redoing the colors and graphics.

Ok, so far from here, it's about half and half between releasing and not buying and not releasing at all.

Well, I am still sold on the thought I should place it up for sale, no one has really given reason for me not to do so right now. Unless someone can convince me not to proceed with selling it :).

I would have to say i do not think it should be sold.. It is a part of VBT's history and in my opinion should remain that way, and not become another sites future..

What are your reasons for wanting to selll it anyway?? (sorry if i missed this in a previous post)

Well a few to be honest:

1). Money for contests and further development of vBT and the network of sites that will be under LimitNine.

2). There will be 2 new styles making way with vBT soon.

3). I would like to let those that do like the style and have asked for it have a chance to buy it as they originally asked.

Yes, sell it, although I think you should sell it to one person only, to remain unique.

Either way people, remember business is business. Memorializing or deifying the old style doesn't put food on the computer or window case mods with neon tubes in SD's $2000 computer.

Well again, the profit from style is not really going to me for pesonal use or for my computer. It is going to be used to further develop vBT and the rest of the network across LimitNine.

So the money received is going back into something everyone will use :).

vBT started as a non-profit site and probably will continue as one. :)

After much thought, the older vBulletinTemplates style will be released for sale to the general public. The style has been zipped up and instructions written.

The only downside to this selling will be that only CC users and verified members of PayPal will be able to purchase the skin, normal, un-verified users will not be able to unless I know them.

The reasoning for this is because I have had a total of $200.00 in fraud at PayPal in the past 2.5 weeks, which I am quite frankly ****** off about. PayPal is *supposed* to be secure and *supposed* to run checks on these things, but I guess they missed it when these orders came in.

So if I know you from here, YaXaY, or another forum and you want to use PayPal and are not verified, you will be able to purchase it by contacting me via PM here at vBT. If I do not know you here or at another forum, verfied only or CC.

How much are you going to sell it for? Or should I enquire in private?

i might buy it, depends on how much it will cost, as this was a superb style i will never forget.

Look for between $15-$25, some where *between* that range.

Good price, I'll get back to you if I'm buying it. Need an extra style for BBAdmins and that one would work great. :p

The main hold back right now is me finding that almost 1 year old PSD file ;).

Any the lucky number @ 4:44am is Disc #45 of ~300 :). Found the PSD, probably be on sale tomorrow.
