Bad power Supplys?
Well my comp has been overheating all day, and the smell of burning wires has filled my room. My power supplys fan has stoped spining for some reason...So i might be offline over the weekend until i can get out and buy a new one for my comp. We are under 2 inches of ice right now in my area so it might be a few days. see you guys then i guess. ;)

I've had my fair share of bad power supplies. Over the last 2-3 months my power has gone off for between 1-2 hours on average. It's really bad, I hope they improve because my comp was on most of the time. I have surge or power protection so no need to worry. But still, the continuing switching off of power is annoying.
Anyway enough about me, good luck on getting it fixed. Power suppliers can be evil. :p |
Well the power triped 7 times today (before going out for 5 hours) so that might have cuased it, ive had issues with it overheating a little big before but nothing like this, when i ripped the case open and pulled it out it bruned my hand. Im just happy i dident fry everything in the case again.
Do you have a surge or power protection? If I didn't, my comp would've been fried by now.
yes, im ganna buy one that will run the comp for 10 minutes or so after the power gose out soon so i can save and safely shut down.
Great, you should be fine after that. My power flickered like 5 times before a shutdown once so just imaging your comp turning on and off 5 times before the power goes off. And, no damage at all.

My girlfriends computer had the same problems a few weeks ago, do yourself a favor and get a more expensive, more reliable power supply. Those cheap ones are not worth it (which is what she had).
Things is, we don't have a cheap one. The company changed, and as soon as we got this new company in the power has been really bad. I hope it balences up during the winter. I can see lots of energy could have been used over the summer.
I meant computer power supply ;)
When it comes to the power company, you can't really help that. |
Well I'm going to try to help it, because it's dangerous for power flickering as it restarts the computer so many times. We had like one that flickered 10 times, which was all those restarts before it shut down. Thats not safe, and if they screwed it up somehow they'd be paying. :p (yeah I know, I wish :()

Hey dude.. This happened to me about 2 months ago.
My computer would shut down, By itself.. Well, it would reboot on its own. I started to get curious as to why this was happening, so i installed a temperature monitor.. Then, one day i was installing my new mouse, and noticed that my Powersupply fan was NOT Spinning. So i had my computer shut down, i booted back up .. And it wouldnt load! Here are the many many expensive things i blew: My harddrive Network Card Onboard Video card A memory Stick I ended up buying a whole new tower, But i was really really ******. Now i have 2 cooling fans :) Just a little suggestion: Check your Powersupply often dude.. |

Great, guess thats welcome back. :D
Welcome back. I haven't had a bad power supply for a couple of years now.
I had for a few years running until last year. Not one blackout for at least 3 years. Now who wouldn't be impressed with that? :p
