Sexy....Kinda

I'm referring to vb3 on this one. Personally, this was my decision about upgrading. Of course, you probably have a superduper beta, which none of us can get, but I don't like it. I did alot of work to mod my network's and I'll upgrade depending on how you can mod yours. I know this was probably a forced decision on you guys, but I would have developed a skin or something first. You had all the great skins in the world, and this depresses me, no offense. I'm just saying what I personally feel, and I would like to know what you admins think of vb3.

SaintDog 02-27-2003 07:24 PM

With the release of the beta, no time was available for skin development as none of the 2.x.x skins will even work with 3.0, they would have to be re-done completely (which they may be, later). A new style is in the works, bit by bit.

When I am not personally working on fixing bugs and errors or reporting them, then the style will be worked on until complete.

Sorry if I sounded rude up there, I didn't mean too, I was just wondering why vBT, a site dedicated to styles, would have a layout like this, which was purple/blue before...

Looks like its almost all blue now.

filburt1 02-28-2003 12:49 AM

How can SD design a cool style for vBT when he just got a private beta yesterday?

You have to remember, the private beta has been out only a few days. The template system has been compleatly overhauled with this release, we all have to re-learn the template side of things.

Tony G 02-28-2003 03:20 AM

You need to be alot more patient, and wait until vB3 becomes more stable before a nice new style can be added because alot of template data can be changed between Beta's.

Rufus69 02-28-2003 02:19 PM

this style reminds me of halodex :P

filburt1 02-28-2003 02:21 PM

SD runs half the web sites in the free world so it's bound to happen ;)

heh, I like that comment :)

But to be honest, I will be working on a few styles for vBT once public beta is released or when 3.0 goes final.

The style you see now is up because I cannot stand the default purple style and I needed something I could stand to look at ;).

As above, the whole template system has been redone and many things are different, from how you access the templates, to the amount of clicks it takes to get to the templates :).

This style will continue to be developed, then a more graphics-savy style will later be developed.

filburt1 02-28-2003 02:34 PM

If you ever need any help in that dark murky beyond of the admin CP, you know who to ask :D

Tony G 02-28-2003 08:43 PM

I'm known to be somewhat helpful too, hehe. ;)

Anyway, the style looks fine now. All the extra little images give it a good feeling. :D

imported_Someguy 03-03-2003 10:25 PM

meh, I though the Gods at vBT would design a design first, then display it, rather then the watch and see technique. At least most of it's blue now, which I want to know why is it purple in the first place? Is that common forum rule? Ikonboard (CGI version) and vB are defaultly purple...

filburt1 03-03-2003 10:31 PM

Yeesh people, the vB3 style set is not finished! According to the mod team at .com it won't be released until vB3 goes final.

It's hard to design for something your not sure when you will be able to use, if you will be able to use, or how you will go about implementing it.

We were not notified vBulletinTemplates was in the private beta testing group until a few days ago when we first upgraded. I had 0 time to do a design considering I have more than just vBulletinTemplates to run, design for, and maintain.

The reason the templates are not as heavily done as the last template is because of the beta testing, I cannot modify everything, then have it changed back during a style upgrade, then have to do it all over; that would simply take too much time, time that I do not have.

Not trying to jump down anyones throat, but please keep in mind this is a beta version, this is not final. I can only do so much and that so much is limited to what the developers will allow at this time.

Tony G 03-04-2003 03:29 AM

For a beta, the style looks fine. It doesn't need to be something spectacular but a new color scheme and the minimal template edits is enough for me. And it's only temporary so it will all be back in due time once we get a vB3 Final.

SaintDog 03-04-2003 04:12 AM

Well, the old style probably will not be back, sadly; though a new style and a more complete version of this one will :).

Tony G 03-04-2003 04:14 AM

I expected the new style, I look forward to it. I've used to change after all thats happened in the last week here. ;)

Bad Bunny 03-04-2003 04:44 PM

I think it looks ok. I didn't expect an early beta to be modified too much.

I'm not sure what the logo is supposed to be, but I think it looks better than what we had up there.

Tony G 03-05-2003 03:14 AM

What we had with the v2 design?

SaintDog 03-05-2003 04:14 AM

I guess he means the old blue one that was light blue instead of powder blue :). Nonetheless, this style will be completed, then a more advanced style will be done once I have time.

Right now I am working non-stop on ViperHost's new backend and order system (which will now have way less room for error) and limitNINE, the business behind ViperHost, vBulletinTemplates, HiveMailSkins, and so on. Believe me, websites are still coming as I can think of them :).

Tony G 03-05-2003 04:57 AM

I don't know how you find time for all of them, but good luck with those future projects. :p :)

SaintDog 03-05-2003 05:17 AM

Not too hard, but I just take things one day at a time. ViperHost's backend has been in development for the past 2 months, started before Christmas of last year, then back again in January until now.

Aside from that, I don't feel ViperHost should represent a graphics development website when it is strictly hosting, which is where limitNINE comes in to effect :).

There is a lot of coding to do and much time to be spent, but it will happen. I have many plans for both LN, VH, vBT, and many more :).

PennylessZ28 03-05-2003 05:11 PM

Does this mean vb3 will require all new hacks and template changes, upgrading a site could be difficult

Yes, all the code was re-written, and the template system is alot differnt.

SaintDog 03-05-2003 05:53 PM

All hacks will be lost, the tables *may* be dropped, not sure, and any styles you have for 2.x.x will not work at all with 3.0 beyond colors.

PennylessZ28 03-06-2003 11:08 AM

Well hacks and templates are the least of my worries, its how hard will upgrading the DB be.

SaintDog 03-06-2003 11:56 AM

Depends on how large it is :)

vBT took 5 minutes to upgrade through 42 steps (yes, the upgrade is a large one, but it is a simple click, click, click upgrade).

SemperFidelis 03-06-2003 02:34 PM

Its been a fair while since Ive visited vBT.
I was one of the first dozen or so members to join back when it was initially launched and even back then I saw a lot of potential in what was trying to be achieved here.
Finally I am back and will be able to stick around alot more.
Heaps has changed since my last visit.
And **** has it progressed !
:D

A huge congrats has to go out to Saintdog and his support crew.
Im sure vBT is going to continue progressing ahead in huge leaps and bounds.

SaintDog 03-06-2003 02:45 PM

Well I do have more planned as things even out a bit, rest assured :). Just have to get this thing out of beta :).

Tony G 03-07-2003 03:33 AM

Thanks for the nice comments, V-Net. :)

Floris 06-27-2003 10:10 AM

I have heard they might be working on the style right now for the vb3. And in a good way. That we can expect it to be with a future beta or rc before gold. Ofcourse, maybe they will not release it in a download for us, but I am sure they will switch on vbulletin.com at some point before the gold.

It will be a great update I am sure ! I also hope to get a screenshot before they do. That is always great!

Brad 06-28-2003 01:20 AM

I just pray it wont be so cluttered, theres alot of new stuff to display in the templates now.

Tony G 06-28-2003 01:21 AM

Same, alot more to fit in. Hope there's some nice way out of this..

Floris 06-28-2003 09:19 AM

Kier had posted a screenshot of his 3000+ screen resolution and it had a window of the silver style :) Before he published beta 3 to the public. Whoo hoo ;)

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/attac...achmentid=6219

When is vBT going to beta 4 ?

Tony G 06-28-2003 10:45 AM

SaintDog hasn't been around since the release of Beta 4 so hopefully when he gets back. :)

Floris 06-28-2003 12:14 PM

I wish He'd join our irc chat channel !!

Tony G 06-28-2003 12:49 PM

I'm planning #vbtemplates to get some more recongnition, and from him too. ^^

Brad 06-28-2003 06:04 PM

Hes busy with alot of things right now, Im sure he will pop in when he gets some time :)
