Simple request to all users

If you don't have a site, don't want to list it for some reason, your site is down, etc. PLEASE DO NOT PUT SOMETHING LIKE "notupyet.com" or "dont.have.one" IN YOUR PROFILE. Instead just leave it blank or the default http://www.

I just find it so annoying when I view a profile to see a useless home page link. Nothing personal to anybody but a request in general.

Creative210 12-12-2002 05:39 PM

lol, I use the status bar to monitor that kinda stuff :)

filburt1 12-12-2002 05:41 PM

I know, but the point is to not have a link listed when appropriate, not a dummy link which leads nowhere but is still displayed.

N9ne 12-12-2002 06:17 PM

~~Puts up "don't have site" as homepage just to annoy filburt :p

Brad 12-12-2002 08:00 PM

The url feild is required, hence the reason you see that.

mikeheinemann 12-12-2002 08:40 PM

So I guess I shouldn't put http://127.0.0.1 ?

Brad 12-12-2002 08:53 PM

I think we sould all put that! :D ;)

filburt1 12-12-2002 08:54 PM

But my stuff isn't on port 80 :p

Tony G 12-12-2002 10:30 PM

How can you get annoyed by that? It happens alot, when the URL field is required to register. You get annoyed by the most silliest things filbie! :p

filburt1 12-12-2002 10:54 PM

Oh, maybe it's because since I actually own vB I can put something in there whereas some users who don't "own" it have to just fill it in with something although they still have a need to download mods for boards they don't "own" yet. ;)

Of course that will all change eventually :)

Tony G 12-12-2002 10:58 PM

Don't make those accusations now! :p

N9ne 12-13-2002 03:36 PM

Let's face it, at vBorg, vBT, vBcom, a lot of users are those using vB illegaly. vBT will have the majority because of the easy access, you just register and you can get everything...

SaintDog 12-13-2002 03:58 PM

Not for long ;)

Brad 12-13-2002 04:08 PM

if ($bbuserinfo[pirate]=true) {
echo"DIE!";
}

:p

Vex 12-13-2002 04:08 PM

16 days, 15 hours, 14 minutes, 13 seconds, and 400 months.

Basically, what I think and probably know is going to happen but I'm just guessing is that we're getting the same sort of "enter your email here to receive this blah blah" thingy here so we can all live happily ever after...la la la

filburt1 12-13-2002 05:56 PM

Piffle!

Or is it?

Yes it is!

Or is it?

:D

'parently so, one more thing i dont have to worry about sliping out. :x

Tony G 12-14-2002 10:42 PM

It's been exposed enough. :p

*Hides*

filburt1 12-14-2002 10:44 PM

Yeah okay, can I just out and say it? :p

Tony G 12-14-2002 10:50 PM

Don't think so, yet. ;)

Could be a while though...maybe?

filburt1 12-14-2002 10:51 PM

I haven't heard anything from SD about it. Hopefully it will happen soon because I bet the situation is ridiculously out of control already.

Tony G 12-14-2002 10:55 PM

I agree with both points, patience is the key. :)

N9ne 12-15-2002 01:10 PM

I'm impatient :p

filburt1 12-16-2002 02:37 AM

Not to make an example of somebody but http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...fo&userid=4516 doesn't have a site listed in his profile

mishkan 12-16-2002 04:44 AM

I understand and agree with the point about paying for the vBulletin software, before receiving support. I did purchase a license before I downloaded the software. However, our board is private, and we never post our URL, anywhere. What provision will be made for admins who require privacy? Thanks. :)

I asume you are speaking of the system that will be in place so we can know who's using warez copys and who's not?.

Anyway, no member here or mod/admin for that matter can see your forums url unless you put it in the "homepage" feild or post it. The form you will have to provide your url to to recive support will be the same as the one used on vB.com/org. The only people that can see this url are john and the dev's, but i am not clear on this area of the system so dont quote me on that. I do know that no one outside of vbulletin/jelsoft can see it.

We (saintdog and the mods) can only see if you are legit or not.

Rufus69 12-16-2002 12:45 PM

fil, maybe he's like me, I dont fill it it because I want to register as quick a s possible and then I add al my stuff if iI become active in that forum.

mishkan 12-16-2002 01:51 PM

Anime-loo, thank you for the explanation. I think that's a very good system. :)

filburt1 12-16-2002 02:16 PM

It has one flaw, though. Multiple people can be authenticated under one license. I guarantee you that there are several loser customers out there who are letting 13-year-old kids leech off their accounts and get support.

Brad 12-16-2002 02:19 PM

Thats a known problem, i can tell you from frist hand experance that half the anime boards out there do this, i get aims all the time like this one:

"Hey man, can you support me?, im legit but theres like 30 people using this acount blah blah blah" at witch point i block and report them ;)

Buddha 12-16-2002 07:07 PM

i know that there must be users like myself as well, who have not posted their site in their profile, as the site is not yet open to the public. in my case, the actual site and all of the designing is done, however the content needs to be added prior to the site going live. it would make a horrible impression to have people checking out the site, seeing it's empty, and then never returning.
(i have a DVD review site)
i have the site root listed in my profile, though not the forum.

my license is registered properly with vbulletin.com, just not added to my profile.

Rufus69 12-16-2002 07:18 PM

I'm just glad mines legit, although I am leeching off my bro til he puts his up ;) then I have to go back to phpbb

Tony G 12-16-2002 10:13 PM

I believe the believable stories. I can get suspicious quite fast so it's best to watch out.

Rufus69 12-16-2002 10:44 PM

you wouldn't believe the one's I've heard

"
Immabigogre: check out my forum www.DOMAINISGONE:p.com
Rufus69hehe: why do you have vb 2.2.4?
Immabigogre: because its the latest one
Rufus69hehe: yeah right....
"

*block*
:p

Cypher720 12-16-2002 10:50 PM

lol^^ funny

hey...when is this new system (like vb.org/com) going to be installed? Is it the exact same system?

filburt1 12-17-2002 12:48 AM

We never even said anything about a license system coming here. As you already know it's on a trust basis although I randomly visit member's forums to see if they're legit and report them if they're not.

If such a thing should ever happen SaintDog would make a forum announcement. If you feel that a board's license status is in question, report it via http://www.vbulletin.com/contact/piracy.php .
