Looking for server? Suggestions please

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a server (or more) to host a vBulletin board. Looking for something decent, maybe even cheap ;)

Dedicated or shared?

I use shared, happy with this host: http://www.hostingmatters.com/

I use www.viperhost.com , Been the best host ive ever used, click here to view my forum running on their servers, its real speedy :)

The only thing slow on your forum AL is the loading of the quick reply. It takes longer for some reason. >_<

But yes, viperhost is good and affordable. :)

OK well I checked out both of those. Viper is easier to understand then hostting matters so I will be looking into them for now. We was set up on a friends friend server and it has just seemed to vanish. It is ashame too had unlimited everything for free but now thats gone I guess. Thank you for your help.

After looking over the prices I can understand why. I was spoiled, should have known it was to good to last forever. Do you guys pay for your board servers yourself or does your community chip in?

filburt1 12-09-2002 10:53 PM

The best host for beginners is localhost. Their support reeks and is rude and the server is always down when my cable goes out but they're free! I get 20 GB of storage!

URL: http://localhost/ :D

That link did not work for me. 20 GB is alright I would like to check that out. Yes I am a beginner but trying to learn what I can as fast as I can. Again people, thank you for your help here.

filburt1 12-09-2002 10:58 PM

localhost is your own computer ;)

I pay for my license and hosting, comes to around $200 a year. Once your forum gets big enough members and ads can chip in but it's not every day that your forums end up paying for themselves. :(

RackShack.net, dedicated server. $99 a month. 400 gig transfer, 60 gigs of storage.

Cypher720 12-10-2002 02:31 AM

I could be mistaken, but I think you used Serious and RackShack in the same sentence.... ;).

Check WebHostingTalk.com if for more information on their "Serious" hosting. I hate to bash hosts, as I am one myself, but what has went on leaves me to never wish to do any form of business with them as long as I live.
