Win XP Style
 

Hey guys, I'm making a windows XP style...
And I just want to know what you guys think of it so far
I havnt done the buttons yet...

Nice (of course that's only the silver one).

Suggestions:
1. Make the green part of the start menu the same width on all noposts
2. Use Tahoma instead of Verdana as that's the default font in XP
3. Consider a different background because eventually it will start repeating

Ok, I've worked on it all day today

hrm...change the forum width...make it smaller. i dont like wide styles, and many people also do not.

1 question....how do you get the BG to be solid like that, so it doesnt move...i forget the code?!?!

Rule 10 is no background images that are fixed.

Why is that?

It's annoying; when you scroll you expect everything on the page to move.

Also on slower computers scrolling performance is pretty bad with fixed backgrounds.

so, its not really a real rule?

Everything seems fine but the background just doesn't match for some reason >_<

the style is excellent, extremely, prolly the best ive seen here so far

i liked the sky background u have in the first post personally, maybe in the zip u could include a selection of multiple backgrounds, then ppl can choose whatever they wish?

anyways, good luck on the buttons, i can tell with how good everything was done so far that the buttons will be great, so i wont bother with suggestions

I wouldn't sell it unless you want to get in trouble with Microsoft for copyright laws...Apple gets ****** whenever somebody rips their design.

what if I put a copyright thingy at the bottom saying all images are for/from microsoft windows xp?
it could also work as a promotion for XP?

If they're like Apple they'll send you a "cease and desist" letter which essentially means "stop what you're doing or we'll sue." If you distribute your style for free then they won't go with the effort of bringing up a lawsuit, but if you make a signficant amount of money they might get annoyed and crack down on people like you (no offensive tone intended) :)

I think it's way to risky to release anything. Who knows, they might not even warn you! Just be careful..

but has anyone accually ever heard of that happening? i mean anythin gis a possiblity i guess, but how doubtful? why would MS spend all that money on court costs and lawyer fees for something as small as that

I was really hoping to make some money off of this, I've worked pretty hard on it :(

Microsoft is much harder on those that use "XP Based" designs, it is so bad that if your website has nothing to do with MS or Windows in general, they can make you remove the images (happened to one of Sinecures customers).

Unless you personally made everyone of the images, you have no right to sell them in any way, shape, or form; that is basically ripping off Microsofts images, which they paid to have done, and profiting from them.

I am not sure whether I would release it bceause of the above; free or paid, they can have you remove it. Microsoft is much larger than Apple is, of course, they do sell different merchandise, although still, if I had to choose, I would say MS would be a little more reluctant to just sue you right off if you are planning on profiting from their work.

I just used everything from MS Windows XP as an example...

I don't guess you have much of a choice, thats what copyright does these days. It's all fair I guess.
