My next release

I know how to do each of the following...who wants what first? All of these affect forumhome and add one query to forumhome.
  • Today's Calendar Events done
  • Current (non-expired) Forum-wide annoucements can't easily be done
  • Show Subscribed Forums (kinda tricky) done
  • Hackless style dropdown done

imported_TMG1 11-01-2002 12:33 AM

ya that will be a sweet template mod :)

calender events would be my choice

Brad 11-01-2002 01:54 AM

Sounds good, im this close to releasing my Avatar on main page mod. That last mod you released help me spot the error in my query.

Tony G 11-01-2002 03:43 AM

Yes, calendar events would be nice.

imported_TMG1 11-01-2002 03:49 AM

thats what i wanted since i got a vb. why just put birthdays when u can put calendar events to. i got lots of vb mod/hack ideas but i cant do that stuff. :( lol im here to absorb the info.

Tony G 11-01-2002 03:51 AM

Hmm, I'm suprised nobody else ever thought of putting events on the main page. Unless there has been a hack I never saw..

Brad 11-01-2002 06:12 AM

Theres a hack over at vB.org.

filburt1 11-01-2002 11:57 AM

There's one more I just thought about: a hackless style dropdown (i.e., Chen's hack but without modifying the PHP files).

Brad 11-01-2002 01:37 PM

Its been done.

filburt1 11-01-2002 02:26 PM

I thought it requires editing the dropdown list manually though...

filburt1 11-01-2002 02:27 PM

Yup: http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...ighlight=style

Requires editing the HTML, mine would just do everything dynamically.

imported_TMG1 11-01-2002 02:44 PM

so what if there's a hack lets get a template mod of this bad boy lol

filburt1 11-01-2002 03:03 PM

Well that's the idea...why hack when you can just mod some templates? Sure makes upgrading easier.

Tony G 11-01-2002 10:29 PM

Does it involve more query using?

filburt1 11-01-2002 10:54 PM

Does what involve more queries?

Tony G 11-02-2002 12:06 AM

The style dropdown automatically updating?

filburt1 11-02-2002 01:59 PM

It involves adding one query to forumhome, not sure what Chen's does.

I'm working on the Calendar Events on forumhome at the moment.

filburt1 11-02-2002 02:57 PM

Calendar events done: http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...&threadid=1812

filburt1 11-02-2002 03:14 PM

The Annoucements on Forumhome will be too hard to do without some hacking; the reason being is that to view even a global annoucement you must specify a forumid. Doing that also displays whatever other annoucements may be in that forum already, and what's more, it would take several queries (or one hell of a complicated one) to get a forumid that a guest can view.

filburt1, you didn't need to post 5 times in a row. We have edit. ;)

But nice mods. :)

filburt1 11-02-2002 10:20 PM

It was like a news update ;)

Thanks :)

Tony G 11-02-2002 11:08 PM

Well the time differences make it acceptable. Don't worry. ;)

assassingod 11-03-2002 04:14 PM

Make me a store hack without using PHP and I will be impressed.

filburt1 11-03-2002 04:36 PM

I could, that would just be a really big phpinclude template ;)

assassingod 11-03-2002 05:22 PM

True:p
Or, make me an FTP client that works:)

Tony G 11-03-2002 10:08 PM

You could pretty much make lots of hacks into mods using the phpinclude template. The list goes on forever.
