Where's the quote code?

Just wondered, but when people use the quote feature for the thread, it's displaying at the bottom below the post, instead of the top of that thread.

Can someone point me to the template that allows me to fix it? I looked in post bit, but it has a $message code, but not sure which template that is.

Well, the quote code is always entered at the top of the post. However, some users move their cursor up to the top and begin typing there. I don't know that there's a template edit that could it anyplace lower.

the "quote" features is actually a custom vB code that interprets the tag and then applys an html edit. You can use this code anywhere in your post, or by clicking on the "Quote" link or button.

So, I think it's really just a matter of cursor placement more than anything else.

shiva 07-24-2002 07:52 PM

hmm, okay, because it doesn't matter where the cursor is, same problem.
Pretty sure it's somewhere in the templates. Would suspect it's included with what ever template file it is that displays the actual message that's pointed to in the postbit. Just need the name of that template is all. :)
Thanks anyway, maybe someone else knows?

Well, the [ QUOTE ] tags are not part of the template system, it's under the "Custom vB Codes" section in your Admin Control panel. If you select the "Edit" button you should see how your quotes are handled.

shiva 07-25-2002 05:16 PM

Heh, I know that, I put the box template code from here in there. :) That just changes the display of the quotes, not the actual placement within the message though.

The placement is handled by the User. There is no template that holds the quote. When you click on the Quote button, all vBulletin does is set the reply box to contain that message surrounded by the quote information for formatting.

p.s. There are no files that hold templates. All templates are database records.

The man, the myth and the legend has arrived... :p

Nice to see you here Wayne!

shiva 07-26-2002 02:38 AM

Ah, okay. Well, that clears it up I guess.
Strange it does it that way though.

*shrugs* Guess I will have to tell my members that.

Wayne nails things head on :); glad to see a few people were able to handle things while I was away today (I guess you could say it was a business meeting).

shiva 07-27-2002 04:41 AM

err... guess again. I just added a comment below the quote, still does it, the quote is always at the bottom of the user post, no matter where you type in your comments. Since the forum uses nothing but the stuff from this board (no hacks at all) maybe one of the template mods is interfereing?

Are you sure about that? ;)

shiva 07-27-2002 02:23 PM

Oh yeah.
So's my members. :)

mashby 07-27-2002 09:02 PM

Ok, then I'm confused. I thought you said that the [ QUOTE ] tags here on vBT always placed the quote below the users reply. Clearly, my previous post has the quote above my reply. :)

So, where is this happening? Is it on a different board?

shiva 07-27-2002 10:02 PM

Sorry, meant my board, this one works perfectly

It's the new template I did for the forums at my site. All I know is no matter what, it always puts the quote at the bottom of the actual posts. The only thing I can think of is a template change, or a server thing, since my site upgraded to the latest version of PHP/MYSQL/Apache etc. Don't see how though. (This is 2.2.6) Maybe it's something in this version of VB? It's a fresh copy, and downloaded only 2 weeks ago at that.

The other license run by a friend is 2.2.2, doesn't have that problem, it places the quote ABOVE the user's comments.

Maybe we should move this to the official site, they might know about it, though I searched and no answer came up.

mashby 07-27-2002 11:55 PM

Ahhhh, now I see. :)

Well, let me ask you this... when you click the "Quote" link in a post, do you see the code in the reply box?

shiva 07-28-2002 01:39 AM

Oh yeah. Complete with the quote tags and everything.
it doesn't matter if you put your comment text either before the opening quote tag, or afterwards.
I actually like it this way, but just wanted the quotes before hand was all.
Maybe I did change it, as it worked fine, but after adding a couple of the mods here, it started to put the quote after the post instead of before like it did before.

That's the reason I was asking where the quote code was, if it was in a template somewhere, so I can double check it. I have modified more than the average amount of templates for this design, so just wanted to double check it, but no idea where to look. :(

It's in your "Custom vB Codes" section of your Admin Control panel.
