Catagory Name as Image and/or Catagory Logo What does it do? It makes your catagory, into an image You can add a catagory logo How would one benifit from this? No one can benifit, its something that you use if you want, it sometimes looks better, and you can create more effect in your designs. Screenshots or Examples: 1 Post below The Instructions are in the txt file that I have included. |
Screen shot.
Catagory name as Image. |
Your a Star :D :D I have been trying for ages to get an image as my catgory title. THANKS (Y)
|
Hum i can't seem to get it to work. I have the image as forums related.gif and it just shows the red X
|
The image has to be the same name as the catagory name.
Ex: if you had a catagory with the name [Something For Nothing] Then your image name would be Something For Nothing.gif Also download the updated file, I made a little mistake :) |
You don't have to unisntall and re install, just find each modified template, and finf the <img src="$forum[ttle] and add a .gif after it
|
Hm, looks pretty nifty... But what happens with crappy browsers that don't automatically convert spaces into %20's? Won't the images show up as red X's?
|
Depends on the server, not the browser. If the server is NT based, then I think the spaces will work. However, a *nix based server would foobar the page, so you make a great point BillaBong.
|
Hmm, good point, didn't think of that...let me sleep on it, I will get back to you tomorow. I may have a solution, I did this on my board, but in the steps I had some trouble, so again I will sleep on it and get back to you quickly.

nice, im sure alot of people will be happy with this mod!
i know i have thought of making category's into images many times, i dont think i will be doing it , just because i think im going to keep the normal text. thanks any ways, and good work with the mod! :) Janitor |
Here is an alternate way. It might seem sort of odd...and I tested it on another forum software, but not on my vB yet.
Change the templates to only display the description, not the title. The for the description, call the image you want. If you use the imagepath, you cna even have a different look for each forum. And you can include a Title AND a description in your image. |
... I don't know, I may be wrong about this...
But why not just title your forum / catagorie as such Code:
<img src=categoryname1.gif> ?? It should work.. and be just as easy (if not simplier) then this... |
Yes, that would work too. At least I think it does.
|
Well I had tried it on 2.2.6 before, and it worked fine, no hack's needed.. But I really don't need it now (on 2.2.9).. but I'd figure it's just plain HTML, what could go wrong?
Anyways, the Idea is good, but the whole process is just tooo long... it's like running arround the block to get to your front door, from your backyard.. when you could just walk straight to the front door :D |
