[Release] Forum Border

Author: SaintDog

Description: This will teach you how to add a border around your forum such as what we have here (ie: the blue border/outline).

crocket 06-26-2002 07:43 PM

ive installed this and i cannot get the forum like urs.. ie the main bits the catagories dont strech the boarder if it is something like 70%

Could you tell me what the values are on this forum?

SaintDog 06-26-2002 08:17 PM

You have to set the forum at a fixed with (ie: in pixels) for some reason, you can not use percentages.

How come my banner and stuff are in a big long box instead of the box being around EVERYTHING.

dmjof 07-04-2002 09:56 PM

Nevermind, I got it!

imported_ULTIMATESSJ 07-05-2002 07:13 PM

i can't get this to work on my forums, i added it and nothing

vertex 07-07-2002 01:47 AM

how would this be modified for an image border?

That's what i been wondering too.

ProtoCon.

Jmonto 07-10-2002 11:04 AM

I would figuere it is instead of bgcolor, you put background="images/image.gif" But I would wait for saintdog say i am correct

SaintDog 07-10-2002 11:38 AM

While you are partially correct, it would take a little extra coding to do image based borders.

Dimi 07-15-2002 08:56 PM

How about put an index.html in the dir of your forum that is devided into 3 frames, 2 outside frames have your image border aligned so that they stick to your board :)

much simpler imo

Greetz,

Dimi

I think you're looking for the [Release] Category Backgrounds template mod [link]

koalakb 07-18-2002 06:07 PM

the things mentioned in this topic, arent they the same as what is mentioned here:

http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...=&threadid=125

just a matter of uploading a catbackround image to the images/frontpage folder?

im more asking how to modify that table so it looks like above^^ where its blue and kinda looks like a folder almost...

mashby 07-18-2002 08:34 PM

Ok, then I'm confused as to what you're asking. Are you looking for a way to add images to your categories, or to your posts, or both?

koalakb 07-18-2002 09:18 PM

soryr to confuse you, im trying to ask, basically if you take this forum thread for instance. if you look at each of the posts, at the very top in blue where it says - Posted: 07-18-2002 at 10:34 PM in blue and on the left and right of that Blue border it looks like three layers ontop of each other. If you go here: http://yaxay.com/yack/ you will see the same outline but in blue, orange, and grey.

that is what i want, i want that "border" to be on my Forum homepage categories and on each individual posts as well

i hope i clarified better, i would take a SS but i dont have access to photoshop at the moment

mashby 07-18-2002 10:07 PM

Ok, now I know what you're looking for!

SaintDog has not released the mod you're looking for. You can find his explanation at this link.

However, what you're looking for is similar in nature to [Release] Category Backgrounds template mod [link] and could be modified to work with your postbit.

What he's done (and I hope I don't get accussed of ripping here ;)) is to create a table with the following:

1. First cell includes the left image
2. Second cell includes a background image (see link above for the template mod) and the post title
3. Third cell includes the right image
4. He repeats the the similar process for the footer

I can see why SaintDog hasn't relased this just yet. There's a lot of options here in this template mod depending on how your postbit is configured. Plus, you have to have custom images.

I hope that helps!

hmm, can you please post a code that i can make a border only in the sides of the forum and not around it? i mean one line in the left and one in the right, not in the bottom and not in upper part..
with images?

dr3w 07-21-2002 11:42 AM

hmmz, this may come in handy, thnx.

Deranged 07-24-2002 10:04 AM

mashby 07-24-2002 04:41 PM

I'd suggest that you make a post in the Template Modification Requests Forum [link].

mashby 07-30-2002 03:20 AM

Did you apply the template mod in this thread? If you did, you should have a border around your entire forum, just like it is here.

Dizzy 07-30-2002 12:40 PM

<font size="1">very nice! the text is great help for the new and un-developed coders...it makes it very easy to do.
also.. pixeljunction had a tutorial on how to do it once, except there's was on how to add graphic borders... and the tutorial was horrible in my eyes, it was very complicated to the new ones. However, Saintdog, you did an excellent job on keeping good instructions for the coder's to follow.
good work my friend,

Janitor</font>

ZiRu$ 08-01-2002 02:51 PM

I'll give it a shot!

ZiRu$ 08-03-2002 12:44 AM

ZiRu$ 08-03-2002 02:01 AM

Is there a way to change the border size and color?

in this part of the mod
Code:

.thtcolor {
        COLOR: {tableheadtextcolor};
}
.bordert {
        BORDER: 1px solid #6597D9;
}

Just change the #6597D9 to a different hex code. For example #000000 would make the border black #FFFFFF would make it white.

To change the width just change 1px to something like 3px, 4px, ect, ect

Fresco 09-24-2002 05:18 PM

the border doesnt show at all here i redone it 5 times :D

Fresco 09-24-2002 05:48 PM

my border is around the WHOLE page..including around the background..

BBug 09-25-2002 08:06 AM

This is a very nice hack, but my page is too close to the left of the border. Is there any way I can center this?

Greetz!
