About Talkerbot v3.0

I know I have been talking about this hack for quite some time well it is underway. Some hackers already know some of the nice stuff planned but I figure its time to let everybody in fully. I want any and all feedback you can give me on this new version.

The goal of this new version is to get people to look at ai bots in a whole new manner. With this new version there will be extensive features making this ai bot in a class of its own.

There will hopefully be an option to setup more then one bot finaly. Meaning you can setup bot y in forum y and have him know just certain things based on the aiml file that you teach him. You can then setup bot x in forum x and teach him some completely different things. This allows you to use him as a smart faq bot, a support bot, or anything else you can dream of.

With the multiple bot idea will be an option to set which bot is used in which forums and what userid he should be using for that forum. Allowing you more detailed control over him.

There will be a delay posting addon to keep him from posting right away by adding in a small delay usualy around 10 seconds. This modification has been requested time and time again and will now be finaly made.

There will be a feature to turn any normal thread that is formated correctly into an aiml file to be able to teach the bot with. I will be working hard on this feature to make it as complete as possible. This feature will put teaching information to the bot at the finger tips of millions of people.

There will be an aiml sharing forum setup on my site where I will encourage people to share the aiml files so that together we can make this one of the most knowledgeable ai bots in existence.

The talkerbot will be shipping with his own builtin plugin areas to allow other modifications to be made to him without ever having to modify his code. I will be using these plugins for the delay in posting addon since not everybody will want to use this addon.

Post text cutoff limit will be put in place to avoid the bot erroring out becuase of the post text string being to long.

<br /> tag stripping since seing that tag is just annoying.

He will be utilizing the new vb 3.5 technology as much as possible and is already using the new reply datamanager.

I will be working on redoing the installer and creating my own installer for vbulletin 3.5 that will have a step in it where it inserts the aiml information into the database. You will no longer have a complicated install. :)

There will be features such as using random smilies, using quoutes (already implemented), defining where he can follow threads at but not reply. Where he can reply and as what bot and which vbulletin user.

The possibilities of the new version are limitless. This bot is not just a toy anymore. He will be able to be used for useful and helpful things. He will be able to save you countless time as a support bot or even just a faq bot. While he will never be perfect we is getting closer.

I've been reading the TalkerBot code. The bulk of the work for this hack is in Paul Rydell's Program E code, the PHP implementation of ALICE.

With all due respects to Tim Y., he seems to really not be in a position to support this code, and the bulk of the code was written by Paul Rydell. The TalkerBot hack is a simple wrapper to the Program E codebase. There is really very little code written that is TalkerBot specific. He has announced a number of times that a new release is "just around the corner" and then nothing for many months.

This post was in June 2005 .... there is nothing going on with this strategy for vB bot development, it seems.

Is there any status on this?

euan doc 02-16-2006 09:57 PM

Yukino_AE 02-17-2006 03:26 AM

bada_bing 03-21-2006 12:57 PM

Me to

TMM-TT 05-14-2006 12:30 PM

I think this could be very interesting yes. Unfortunately, the links in this thread looks dead, so I'm curious too, if there is any status on this :)

Jon. 05-14-2006 05:13 PM

I'm looking forward to this too :)

I'm not quite sure what's happened to his site... Maybe he's sorting out that.

TMM-TT 05-14-2006 06:05 PM

I just made the old talkerbot (for vB3.0x) work for 3.5x, but I think there's still a lot of things that really should be changed and fixed (I did'nt manage to make all functions work correct) in that source.

This is the result, when I tested it - http://forum.tornevall.net/showthread.php?t=43896

... but I guess that the TB 3.0 is much more interesting.. :)

kofoid 05-24-2006 06:34 PM

So is Tim even working on this anymore? The site is down and there hasn't been an update in ages. I am willing to kick down a few bucks via paypal to get this thing and I am sure others would be willing too. This is getting mildly frustrating

TMM-TT 05-26-2006 04:09 PM

Just tell me, and I'll attach my edit of v2.0.2. Almost nothing has been changed in it.

I also had to disable those two rows to make it work -

//$botinput = strip_empty_bbcode(strip_quotes($newpost["message"]));
//$botinput = strip_smilies($botinput);

- I guess the calls to those functions are different in vB3.5x, and I didn't know how to fix it when I made the changes... There's also another a few other things that I had to fix to make it work - that needs to be fixed before it can be used in a correct way.. :)

Someone please finish it! LMAO

I will pay for the darn thing.

Gazer 07-06-2006 10:00 PM

Hmm well hes still around the forums, but not in this part.

Nathan2006 07-09-2006 07:12 PM

Is there any update?:)

Yukino_AE 07-09-2006 11:00 PM

there doesn't appear that's there is EVER going to be an update, i don't believe he will give the rights for anyone else to finish or update this hack, and i've checked his forums and site and nothing. it appears this is a dead hack. *sigh*

tazzarkin 07-03-2008 10:37 PM

Is the author of this mod still alive?

There's not much you can do. If the author of the modfication will not update nor provide code rights to anyone, then not you or vb.org can do anything. You can of course make a thread in the Request For Paid Services forum and ask for a coder to update it for your use.

EDIT: In fact, I just had a quick look at the botlearner.php file and found this:

Quote:

Program E is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or
(at your option) any later version.
That means, a coder is free to update it and release it here. :)

I really hope someone re-releases this. It would really be great!
