Request: Community Update (bulletin like combull)

Would be nice to have a weekly news letter that is some what similar to CommBull https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ht=news+letter But with a lot more features.

cmiller1014 06-12-2005 05:25 AM

Is anyone working on something like this for 3.5? Would this be one of those hacks that doesn't require any file edits? I consider this to be the single most important feature of my site. The ability to send out a weekly bulletin with all the latest posts, polls, calendar events, etc is just GREAT. Every friday becomes the most active day of the week on my forums when I send out the bulletin. I usually get at least 50% of my 2000 members to check in.

PLEASE - PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE IS WORKING ON SOMETHING! ;) :) Please? :surprised:

BUMP, me also. This is a VERY important hack to us

cmiller1014 06-12-2005 08:34 PM

I am going to keep this alive until someone sees it. I am surprised that more people don't send out a bulletin like this.

Anyone? Could this be done without hacking VB code???

eXtremeTim 06-13-2005 12:07 AM

Right now it cannot be done via plugins since there are no plugins in the acp.

cmiller1014 06-15-2005 08:27 AM

Are they planning for plugins in the ACP?

cmiller1014 06-30-2005 04:42 AM

TTT again :)

What would be a fair price to pay to have a custom system built? I want to put in a request because this is the single most important feature on my site. My advertisers like to sponsor the mailing, my users like to receive it, and I love the traffic that comes when it goes out. It's the best thing ever to happen to vbulletin.

I really want to put in a request but dont want to offend anyone with too low of a price. What is the best way to do a paid request? Tell them what I am willing to pay, or let them tell me what they need?

sabret00the 06-30-2005 10:24 AM

heh, i almost forgot i got something like this planned though ETA atm isn't gonna be anytime soon as i got a couple other projects ahead of it in my queue, and with me no where near upgrading my life site to 3.5 :ermm: the hardest part is actually the userside but i guess that's not even hard with custom menu's, so scrap that. ok the hardest part is the flexibility side, IMO if someone does get one out anytime soon, it should be template based and the coding construct should be kept tidy :)

traderx, what extra features are you looking for?

cmiller1014 07-01-2005 04:07 AM

What exactly happened to this post? I was the original poster, but somehow traderx is now at the top with a different title to his post???

Were these merged?

hotrod1 07-01-2005 08:40 PM

I would very interested in a newsletter script for vb 3.5. Is there anyone here that is coding this now because I like this hack alot. Also, if someone could custom code this like cmiller said I would be willing to do pay someone.

KA BUMP
i want thos too

hotrod1 07-06-2005 01:39 PM

Yeah is anyone currently developing a mod like this now?

aldamon 07-14-2005 11:54 AM

CommBull is the most important hack on my board. I've used it for years now and we won't switch to 3.5 unless something similar is available. We're not going to give up guaranteed traffic for superficial features.

Ditto, Aldaman

hotrod1 07-21-2005 12:46 PM

Any progress on this mod?

Chris Schreiber 07-27-2005 07:30 PM

I'd love to see this available soon as well, as I used to depend on sending out html community bulletin emails to my members on a regular basis... it certainly generates activity and visits from it, and I've missed this since upgrading to 3.5

cmiller1014 07-28-2005 05:56 PM

I havent upgraded to 3.5 because I rely on this too much. This thing generates more traffic than anything else.

Neutral Singh 07-29-2005 06:52 AM

Add to me the list of requestes... i surely need this hack in vB3.5... Please...

cmiller1014 07-29-2005 06:38 PM

To those that want this, post over at VB.com on this thread and tell them.

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=148591

:)

hotrod1 07-29-2005 06:47 PM

I posted there and I hope they do actually integrate that feature into vbulletin :)

jluerken 08-31-2005 11:25 AM

I would also like to see some kind of newsletter function within vb.

To be honest, as far as vB has come, it makes absolutely NO sense not to have an integrated newsletter piece built in. It should have been added before things like the reputation system IMO.

EXACTLY!

Neutral Singh 09-06-2005 03:46 PM

Its amazing how little emphasis has been given to newsletter/comm bull plugin, which probably is the single easiest mode of bringing the hard earned traffic back to our forums. Hard earned coz its really time consuming and painful effort to get good members for the forum and then also be able to retain them. vB Newsletter is a must and some good coder should do it fast. :(

ToastBusters 09-07-2005 03:29 AM

This actually doesn't look that hard to impliment. If no one touches it by this weekend I may do it myself...

[edit]I oughta ask the original author for permission though...

cinq 09-07-2005 03:56 AM

Ideas on what it should do/how it should work could help someone who is considering making this ....

At the very least, I'd expect it to work exactly like the 4-year old commbull. :)

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=16290

I thought with kier/tubedogg doing the original coding and with the hack being 4+ years old this feature would have been included in vB by now. LOL.

xeon 09-08-2005 04:54 PM

I will toss my hat in.... It would be nice if this were a standard part of vB. I can't tell you how many forums I revisit upon receiving a newsletter... otherwise I may have never revisited it. My personal highest traffic rates were at times following the use of the old Commbull. Not an in your face feature, but IMO a feature not to be overlooked.

diettalk 09-11-2005 12:31 AM

I use to use commbull as well to pull out threads for an external newsletter. I'll love to have it back.

Neutral Singh 09-11-2005 02:11 AM

How would you do that exactly?
Thanks

diettalk 09-11-2005 02:57 AM

I go up to the point where you have the data and I pull it out and add it to my newsletter and send it off via dada.

Briskoda 09-16-2005 01:35 PM

Likewise, I'd like to have it for 3.5.

Tagging thread for later developments, respecting the orignial authors, but somtimes things need to be made for demand.

I agree COMPLETELY!

skizzy203 09-26-2005 03:47 AM

Me too, me too, me too...

Keep this topic fresh. I could really use the traffic right now.

Mr Chad 09-26-2005 11:01 PM

Much needed!

dethfire 09-29-2005 08:39 PM

needed, I can't make up news on my own lol

heynurse 09-30-2005 06:39 PM

I'd also love to see this hack ported over!

Nullifi3d 09-30-2005 09:43 PM

Combull. I never used it. What's it like?
