Stop User Registrations Via A Proxy
What this hack does:
This hack will stop users from being able to register on your site using a proxy. This will help to cut down on spamming by stopping people from going around your bans as easily. This by no means will catch every proxy. Install Info: Phrases: 1 Plugins: 1 Install time: 1 minute. There is no version number on this hack since there is really no way to grow this current one. If people see more places they would like proxy checks let me know and I will release additional hacks for these locations. |
wrong forum tim ;) theres a new one for real plug in's now like this that dont edit any files :)
|
Opps I missed that one.
My bad. |
I dont seem to have a "frontend error messages" type.
I have: Front-end Redirect Front-end FAQ/Help Am I missing something? |
the error messages one is right below redirect and right above inline moderation.
|
so it is not: Type: Front End Error Message? It is "Error Message"?

Hey :)
I'm not going to install this mod, I don't have VB3.5b1 yet but mods like this seem to inconvinience AOL users (and some others). Is it possible to include a check to exclude people on such an ISP? (Check for AOL in the host)? |
Yes I was just thinking. Don't all AOL users go through a proxy? Could be very risky installing this.

Okay so we need a check for aol users then.
|
anybody got the useragent string handy for aol users? Or something I can work with to make this hack bypass for them

All world anonimous proxys by geoip (maxmind) updated from 7/7/2005.
If you can do a pluggin that checks this list is better. Then I can update the anon prox. list: Code:
168.143.112 168.143.113 168.143.114 168.143.115 168.143.123 212.255.122 12.107.108.211 12.147.139.209 12.160.225.206 Edit: Please attach this as a text file next time rather than a huge post. Thanks. |
dose this also block dial-up users? /; me being on the waste of a time system.. i wouldent want 2 ban my self /;
|
I could be wrong, but I think there is some confusion here by some posters. Yes many ISPs like AOL send their members through proxy servers. In the context of this plugin and plugins similar to it; however, people are referring to blocking anonymous open proxies that are listed in realtime black hole lists. Open proxies can be used by any user who points their internet settings to the proxy or uses the proxy's web interface. These types of proxies are often used by individuals to get around a banning or to hide where they are really coming from because they are up to no good. These types of plugins aren't designed to nor would they block closed proxies that ISPs use to improve the efficiency of their systems.

silly question but whay can't you just paste this list into ban IP space on Vbulletin options |
sorry to bring back a old topic and thread but this dont work to well... if you goto Anonymouse.org it will let you register right away on any site with this installed...
|
Anonymous proxy servers do not advertise the fact they are proxies, so you cannot detect them other than by IP address.
|
Can't you combine the usage of this hack and the RBL plugin?
