Screen Capture Blocker
Search did not result in any hits, so I was wondering about a possible hack that could potentially block a user from screen capturing your forum. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of how some java script will not allow you to highlight text, or right click. This would be a security issue for thoes with private sites, and do not want content escaping.
Any thoughts on the possiblity of this type of hack? Thank you. |
Uh, my thought would be... Possible, but easy to bypass...
Unless you design your own browser that isn't identical to any browser on the market and only allow that type of browser to access your site, then yea, it's possible... But otherwise, I don't really see the usefulness of this... |
Impossible, even if you create your own browser that only communicates with your site through HTTPS and blocks screenshot hotkeys.

The use for myself, and possibly others might have for this type of security is that I run a private forum, and have had members leaking content to non members by sending them screen shots.
I'm sure anyone else with a private forum could see the added secuirty benifit of disallowing one method of copying content. |
Its not a matter of people wanting it, its a matter of being able to accomplish it within the means available to us.
Oh and yeah, if you want to be smart about it, try to hide the userid or someother identifier for the person viewing the thread somewhere so when they take a screen cap and pass it around, you can indentify them and ban them. |
Its impossible. Give it up.
Even if you thought you coule do it with any kind of web script it doesn't work. As long as your browser isn't the active window you could use the normal PrintScreen button. As far as I know it can only be done with javascript which you can disable in a browser or if you use mozilla you can just disable it for certain pages or websites. There's always programs like hypbersnap or quiccsnap that you can hotkep any button say like the "1" button to take a screen shot of your desktop or avtive window. So don't even bother thinking you can get this to work. |
Easy way around it: camera :)

Great, there goes my plans for world domination

If it shows up on screen it can be copied. |
I don't think so. This will not display if you have any screen capture open. Why don't you check it instead of bashing?

This is impossible. |
Yes, I would suggest instead of trying to block it, make it possible to track this person easier. Such as putting their user name in the background of the page as a watermark, or something to identify that person.

I couldn't get the Plugin to work with my beloved Firefox, but was able to get it working on IE. Nice Software, but it seems to fail at one important point ... The screenshot is not faked, I did not crack it, or use any special Software - not even a VM was necessary. It will surely stop the average Joe, but it will not stop ppl who do know what they are doing. |
I tried the plug in out on thier demo page and
a) it doesnt work with firefox b) it barely works with IE When I did get it to work, partially, I was able to get around it anyway so no big deal there. It took more effort to get the plugin installed and working than to get around it. |
