404 Error Ban

An updated version of my old hack done via plug-ins. Basicly, you stick a user in the 404 usergroup and they see 404 errors on every page.

Thankyou for this, very useful, it's like a not so horrible miserable users hack :p

Bad news:

Unknown column 'pmpermissions_bak' in 'field list'

When executing the query :p

I will just make the usergroup manually instead...

The Wise One 06-10-2005 07:54 PM

nice. can custom error pages be used with this?

Yes, but i think the point is that it makes the person think your site has gone down so they don't bother re-registering to spam your ass like the little ++++ers they are.

Svenna 06-11-2005 02:02 PM

nice job :nervous:

I will just make the usergroup manually instead...

[sql]
INSERT INTO usergroup (usergroupid, title, description, usertitle, passwordexpires, passwordhistory, pmquota, pmsendmax, pmforwardmax, opentag, closetag, canoverride, ispublicgroup, forumpermissions, pmpermissions, calendarpermissions, wolpermissions, adminpermissions, genericpermissions, genericoptions, attachlimit, avatarmaxwidth, avatarmaxheight, avatarmaxsize, profilepicmaxwidth, profilepicmaxheight, profilepicmaxsize) VALUES
(404, '404ed Users', 'Users who can not see the board, they see 404 errors', '', 0, 0, 50, 5, 5, '', '', 0, 0, 127487, 3, 19, 1, 0, 5319, 30, 7, 0, 80, 80, 20000, 100, 100, 65535)
[/sql]

Run that instead.

Edit: Nevermind doesn't work I'll fix it in a few moments...

womensden 06-20-2005 03:47 PM

any fix on this yet?

TCM 06-21-2005 06:35 PM

What worked for me:
[sql]INSERT INTO `usergroup` ( `usergroupid` , `title` , `description` , `usertitle` , `passwordexpires` , `passwordhistory` , `pmquota` , `pmsendmax` , `pmforwardmax` , `opentag` , `closetag` , `canoverride` , `ispublicgroup` , `forumpermissions` , `pmpermissions` , `calendarpermissions` , `wolpermissions` , `adminpermissions` , `genericpermissions` , `genericoptions` , `attachlimit` , `avatarmaxwidth` , `avatarmaxheight` , `avatarmaxsize` , `profilepicmaxwidth` , `profilepicmaxheight` , `profilepicmaxsize` )VALUES
('404', '404''d Users', 'Users who see 404 errors whenever they try to access the board.', '', '0', '0', '50', '5', '5', '', '', '0', '0', '127487', '3', '19', '1', '5319', '30', '7', '0', '80', '80', '20000', '100', '100', '65535');[/sql]

EDIT: Note: I modifed the discription of the usergroup, but it's not important.

TCM 06-28-2005 06:27 AM

Hmm. I forgot the code, but shouldn't this be modified to check if the member's secondary usergroup is the 404 one?

Boofo 07-27-2005 09:14 PM

Brad, can you please update this for RC 1? ;)

utw-Mephisto 09-08-2005 12:44 AM

Will this be updated for RC2 / gold at all ?

utw-Mephisto 09-21-2005 01:09 PM

bump ?

lamilein 09-22-2005 06:16 AM

an updated plugin for RC3 would be really appreciated :)

Zelda-King 09-24-2005 02:13 PM

I do not like the usergroupid being set to '404'. When I add subsequent usergroups their id starts from 405. eg, 405, 406, etc.

Also, as per the more recent 404 Ban hack, on Firefox it just shows a blank page. I would imagine it works on IE.

IrPr 01-12-2006 12:28 PM

does work on 3.5.3?

Wild-Wing 01-26-2006 03:04 PM

Great hack good idea.
