I've recently begun redesigning my board. The old style sucked big time but v1.0 is lookng promising.

Anyway, I just wanted you guys input on the head, it's the one thing that I'm unsure about.

but i really don't like it, from the screenies, it feels very photoshopped but yet overtly basic, almost novice and for what you've tried to acheive feels like it's been done on numerous occasions already, i'm not sure how you could fix it though :(

Nah it doesn't piss me off just intruegues me. Maybe you don't like what I like... two people are allowed to have different opinions.

If possible could you please eleborate on the key points you state (very photoshoped but yet overly basic). I know you don't mean it literally but I didn't even use photoshop :p.

Looks a lot like a Ipod to me. You want something clean and not too flashy or members will be overwhelmed.........

Is that a complement or advice? Anyway, from previous styles I've realised that being too clean is boring and colorless. Adding the color spiced things up a bit; more interesting.

Edit:: I know I can clean up the page loading time, this is just to get the framework and looks done... I'm adding more CSS and working towards a nearly tableless design for v1.1

I hate cluttered design . It also puts members off because it can make a site hard to navigate but yours looks nice and easy . Good use of colours

do your members a favor ... increase text size

1pt larger makes it look bloated... Although I have done an "v1.0 - The easy read" style here.

Yeah the 1pt larger font is nice.

fonts don't really make much difference to me since i use firefox i can just hold ctrl and move the mouse wheel to increase or decrease font size

well, it's really not about you... it's about the tens, hundreds, thousands of other individuals who use the site and have no idea about the
think about the end-user and you will create successful sites

I and many others on the site don't see it as small... I've asked them and they all like the size apart from one user... and I made "The easy read" for him. He is now content.

Aside from the font and what not... what do you like/dislike about the design/site?

Change the grey colour in "Wizard" and "W" to something stronger like orange or yellow etc. but not red because blue and red just don't work.

The font size of block titles are too small.

Also the "welcome to..." graphic could be redesigned - maybe a closeup of an ipod to the right with a few words about the site eg. "iPod Discussion Boards" to the left.

Those few things could boost it up to another level.

I agree, the grey doesn't do justice with it.

Any other color would over power the rest of the site. It's staying grey for now but I will think about it for future updates.

I've done a bit of work, tablesless css on most of the table headers and footers, completely redesigned the header, darkend the tables footers, darkend the blue used, changed the shadows on the table footers at the sides. v1.0.1
