I know you miss it

Lets reminisce for awhile...

wtf is that? looks like someone ripped vbulletin.org ;)

yea i miss that old hack system... i guess the admins are lazy to make it? (not meaning in a rude way) ..

maybe we can get a group of people to make a hack db for vbulletin.org? i dont really like the current system..

Brad 05-06-2005 07:19 AM

Its not that we are lazy, we just don't see the point in making one because the forums serve the same purpose and don't require tons of work from the end user to get listed in the hack database. I guess no one remembers having to enter the thread into for the hackdb when posting under the old system? No matter how nice it looked to the end user it was still a mess >)

Sebastian 05-06-2005 07:52 AM

who said you needed a thread to add a hack? the hack db would have its own post.. people would be able to add comments right in the hack db.. kind of like the bug tracker at vb.com..

Oblivion Knight 05-06-2005 08:14 AM

I don't see much wrong with the current setup we're using in all honesty.

I'm a user that rarely bothered looking in the hack database anyway, as Brad said - authors had to check a box in their thread to say that they wanted their mod to feature in it, and by relying solely on the hack database you were missing out on many great mods that hadn't been added.

Sebastian 05-06-2005 08:17 AM

the current setup isn't all that bad.. but it'll be nice to have an archive to be able to better search the hacks.. right now finding hacks can be a pain.. like to see all hacks from all time you have to select "show all threads" from the menu to go back further..

Link14716 05-06-2005 06:59 PM

Personally, I hated the Hack DB. It doesn't have any real advantages over the current system, and it was a +++++ to deal with.

Dan 05-06-2005 07:19 PM

To me it just seemed easier to search in than the way it is currently. But that's just my two pence.

Chris M 05-06-2005 09:38 PM

Oddly enough, same here - I'd have the hack db back any day ;)

I don't remember that colour scheme, but I'm glad I missed it .......

Chris M 05-06-2005 10:18 PM

Hehe - That was the best colour scheme vB.org has ever had ;)

The Hack DB was great - Somehow it seemed tidier than the current setup ;)

Yeah.. The hack db was great...

Yes, I know my account wasn't registered then..Long story..No I wasn't pirating vb or anything.:p.

It was much mreo conveint..I think it could be re-instated with some work...

Logikos 05-07-2005 05:06 AM

I already have the same thing on my computer, i plan on adding it to my site. Don't worry Punktek most people here was pirating vb before the acually bought it.

Dean C 05-07-2005 08:13 AM

I think that's a bit of an unfair judgement make Ken...

Logikos 05-07-2005 08:43 AM

Just stating the obvious

How I love sweeping generalisation! :(

Logikos 05-07-2005 09:21 AM

Don't know about you, but i don't pay 80 bucks for something that i havn't used. And demos don't cut it.

Ghostsuit 05-07-2005 11:34 AM

Depends on the product and what testing things they provide. I tend not buy something unless I can give it a trial in some form or other. I don't have to resort to pirating to test a product though. I'll use demos, 30 day trials and in the case of vB I used vB Lite and read up on the forums. I never found a need to pirate vB

If a company can't provide me viable testing/trial/information on a product then thats the companys fault and might end up with me not buying the product.

Thats why i stated most of the people here. You and many others who havn't are not part of the most. ;)

Sebastian 05-07-2005 06:22 PM

i will say he's right... i know i pirated and i admit it.. unlike some... its called test driving.

TruthElixirX 05-07-2005 08:59 PM

I wasn't pirating it. :p.

I meant I wasn't...and I didn't. I was jsut stating that.I admined at another board and would often go and look at good hacks in the hak db. :p

Revan 05-08-2005 12:22 AM

I pirated it. Yar.
That is, it didn't actually make it onto my live site. vB3 at least. vB2 made it onto one of my previous hosting accounts, but never saw any actual posting.
I was a coding n00b and was testing whether or not I had a shot at getting the RPG over to vB myself.
I agree fully with Ken whe he says that demos don't cut it. The only thing that cuts it is to see a fully functional version working on YOUR forum and if it suits YOUR needs. With the following, Im not trying to resurrect that whole "Should Jelsoft change their policy" or "Does piracy benefit the industry" discussion again, but I must say that I would never have spent $160 on vB if it weren't for me having tried a pirate version. I know a lot of people can say the same.

Chris M 05-08-2005 08:55 PM

I never pirated vB - My friend owned one and I took charge in modifying it - That's what got me interested, and what got me to buy my first licence :)
