Search function in vb.org not working lately

I tried with different connection and browsers, lately I have not been able to
search when i do it times out.

do a search for "thank you hack"

Paul M 05-01-2005 03:12 PM

Hmm, you're right - it does fail when you search for that - probably because "thank" and "you" are ignored, so you are actually just searching for "hack". I guess there are too many of these and it overloads .....

No, its defintely broken. Searching for anything borks it.

Adrian Schneider 05-01-2005 05:01 PM

I was searching for something today too, same problem...

Paul M 05-01-2005 06:01 PM

Searching for "test topic" works fine for me.

Searching for "Post Count" gives me a "This page can not be displayed" error in IE. In Firefox, it doesnt return any results.

"Test Topic" also works for me. Nothing else Ive tried does, however. Odd.....

Interesting...'Post count' fails for me too, and it's a quick failure, not just a timeout. It immediately displays the error. Searching for more esoteric terms, such as the elements of my sites name 'wizarding realm', works fine. I wonder if certain words, which may, or may not, exist in the vb code arrays responible for input sanitizing are confusing the engine?

"post count" DID work just a few days ago because I used that term to locate a hack I was looking for.

Paul M 05-01-2005 08:32 PM

Well I think the general view is it's borked. :)

amykhar 05-01-2005 09:27 PM

Searching for the word "borked" pops a bunch of results up for me, no problem

JohnBee 05-01-2005 09:54 PM

Ah well if "borked" returns the proper results then theres nothing wrong :p

hotrod1 05-01-2005 10:00 PM

It was working before for me now its not working at all.

andrew67 05-01-2005 10:14 PM

seach for "Time Online" also brings a 404 page not found error but "Online Time" works... wierd...

Dolby 05-02-2005 08:03 PM

Searching for "Global user table" did nothing. It just stayed on the main search page... it never brought up the results.

Firefox works just fine for me.

Dean C 05-02-2005 09:17 PM

I noticed a few problems with the search feature in firefox here too. I haven't tested in IE so I'm not sure. But something is definately wrong here...

kylek 05-03-2005 12:46 AM

I have tried searching and not working at all.

Paul M 05-03-2005 01:06 AM

Have our administrators abandoned us - I would have expected a comment by now. :)

Brad 05-03-2005 02:32 AM

It works for me, but its very slow...

It's just they too have lives, like the rest of us. :)

Dark_Wizard 05-03-2005 09:43 AM

I get a DNS error when searching and I'm using the latest IE....tried in FF and it doesn't go anywhere just stays at the search page where I started...

Xenon 05-03-2005 12:22 PM

Sorry, but i am very busy in real liefe these days.

Actually we are having a bit more problems here,so i assume it's a server issue, as no changes were done to vb.org lately

Yes, but I had tried it in IE too and same problem. Never had a problem before with FF on this site.

when do you think we can get this working? its annoying coz without the search feature this site is pretty useless.

Revan 05-04-2005 03:10 PM

Worx4me :) Im on FireFox 1.0.3 btw.

JohnBee 05-04-2005 03:21 PM

I'm also using FF 1.03 and I tried it on Opera and ie the problem is not browser
specifics.

Also am I correct in assuming that the search button went awery when the
double post hack was implemented?

Revan 05-04-2005 03:32 PM

I have never seen the search button in the Smooth Blue style (but as you can see, Im using Dark Blue, in which the Search button is present). Regardless, the Search is accessible from the Search link (d'oh).

They are not related issues. Search worked for some time after the double posting hack was installed and only recently did it start throwing errors.

On the smooth blue style you can find a link to the search page in the navbar.

BTW besides begin slow the other day search has been working fine for me, I'm also using firefox 1.0.3.
