I FINALLY have a job!
It's been a difficult 16 months of unemployment for me due to depression and lazyness, with my last job ending in January 2004. I've had little money to live on and my confidence was non-existent..
I've just received a phone call however, congratulating me with my job application to a local supermarket and they offered me a position as a checkout operative. It may not sound much to you, but for me it's quite a big thing.. I start on wednesday with the first of three induction sessions. :nervous: I was starting to think that I was unemployable.! |
Congrats M8 and I know how you feel, been there, done it and got the tee shirt, and still have :).
|
remember to the smile as the customer is always right :)
|
Heh, congrats :)

1. Get a job. 2. Earn $300. 3. Buy an iPod. Although in all seriousness, I would save as much of it as possible. |

Geez, who would have thought that you had no confidence??? You write some of the best hacks here!!! I can totally relate though... I have been out of work due to a back injury for close to 3 months now. I am in the process of filing bankruptcy. Problem is I own a business so no work = no money...... I am starting to slowly to work again but I have barley any clients anymore..... I have lost almost all of my posessions in the last 3 months and my relationship with my wife and family is hanging by a thread.... anyhow-- I can totally relate and I congratulate you on employement.... PM me if you ever want to talk.... We have much in common... |
Finally, Andy! Now I guess you won't be attending any more "bums for hire" meetings? We'll miss you. ;)
All seriousness aside, good luck and hang in there. It only gets better now. ;) @RichieBoy67, the only way to go is up now. Been there, lost that, too. Finally starting to see the day of light. You will, too. Hang in there. ;) |

Have either of you owned an iPod? It's the interface and ease of use that made it consume 90% of the HDD-based MP3 player market, not the features. :)
|
I have owned an iPod, I just don't understand the hype. Pluse, with the 200 bucks I saved by taking it back and getting a Zen, I'm able to purchase something more important. :)
To each his own though, I just did not have a very good experience with mine. I'm pretty sure it was defective as even USB 2.0 wasn't updating/uploading to it. Before this gets TOO far off-topic, congrats on the job! |

I hope things work out for you with everything. Quote:

To tell you the truth I have never had a formal job position such as "checkout operative" or any other fixed tasks day in day out.
I work on-call, and usually have been my own boss. I plan to apply for an actual formal scheduled, planned job within the coming weeks just for the hell of it. Either way, congrats on the new job...a big step towards many things. |
To: Oblivion Knight
That really cool Oblivion Knight, I wish you the best in your new position! I did that same thing when I first came to the states to go to college in Boston. I made some great friends working there most of them are still close today! I know it really difficult to get any type of job today no matter where you live, so I'm happy for you! Good Luck To: RichieBoy67 Wow, RichieBoy67 sorry to hear about your bad luck, I do hope you get to feeling better so you can get back to where you were before! I once lived in Connecticut for 3 years, that state is really expensive, cost of living, gas, everything compared to states north of it like Rhode Island and Mass where I live now! God Bless both of yoy!!! Sonia |
Congrats :) I'm almost in the same process, I have a phone interview tomorrow. :p Feel free to dish out all your secrets to landing the job.
|
Hey at least in MA you get paid a ++++load for your work ^^
I work as a phlebotomist and make 13.35 an hr right now, not much but i am per diem, if i were an actual employee i would be making around 18-20 an hr and i get a raise every 5 months. Not too bad for a college student, i make my own hours and everything, wish i got paid a bit more thou :/, but i make do And i got the job because i volunteered at the hospital for 4 years before i got a job there. congrats on getting the job, hope it turns out to be enjoyable as well as profitable ^^ |
