How do I do this for my site?

I really like the 'Support the DVD Forums' nav bar at the top of the DVD Forums. It's neat, unobtrusive, a great use of space and really, really useful.

http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/#

Is it custom code or is it based on a freely available template?

Just wondering if someone out there could point me in the right direction so I can put something like that together for my site.

I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

looks like a custom conversion of vB's DHTML dropdown..

Joe Blow 04-06-2005 07:24 AM

Well it's exactly what I'm looking for.

I've spent the last 12 months building a community and haven't thrown any advertising at them out of respect for the members and the sense of community that I've built. But this is perfect! It's subtle, unobtrusive and gives people the option to support the forums without throwing up garish banners at them.

Unfortunately I'm not a programmer. I'm learning about webmastering as I go but programming is not something I'm good at. I know some regular HTML but that's about it. :o

I'll be honest. I need to replicate this thing and will pay anyone who can do it for me. I can fill in the links etc, I just need someone who can create the bare bones code for me.

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I can pay by paypal, in advance if something thinks they can knock this together fairly quickly.

If you can, please post in this thread and I'll keep a close eye on it over the next week.

Hoping someone can help.

id just make a DHTML menu dropdown with links to advertiser that you want to advertise.

You will need a program such as Sothink DHTMLMenu to do the menu as its a lot easier but there are free programs on the net to make these sort of menus so use google to find what u need.

The thing is, I want it exactly the same. Same colours, same amount of links, same look, same everything. I just want to modify the headings and links.

My forum is also unmodified from the forum default (my forum is a financial one; my members don't like change!) so it would suit it perfectly in every way.

I doubt my ability to recreate it as it looks.

:disappointed:

in admin control panel, go to your styles and settings, edit templates
find the one that says navbar

look for
<!-- nav buttons bar -->
copy the code in between these comments into a txt file or something
<!-- / nav buttons bar -->

edit it as you like, replaceing the drops downs with your links and duplicating them as many times as you need to get as many drop downs as you need
paste that code you modified above whats called breadcrumd
that will move it on top....look for this comment in that template
<!-- breadcrumb, login, pm info -->

if you need 2 rows of that navbar area like he has, just do it twice
like...
<!-- nav buttons bar -->
code for top custom navbar
<!-- / nav buttons bar -->
<!-- nav buttons bar -->
code for 2nd row of drop dropdown menus
<!-- / nav buttons bar -->
probably need a <br /> or 2 after this to distance it from the breadcrumb area

if you need to see his exact code, just view source :)
good luck!

I don't think it's going to be easy to recreate what that site has... this line kinda tells me that:
HTML Code:

<script type="text/javascript" src="ypSlideOutMenus.js"></script>
It doesn't even look like standard vB dhtml. It's a lot more slidey.

i dont think he said he wanted an exact duplicate
if so, he can google up some dynamic html slideout effects
