I need help to create some forums easily

Hello,

I wish to create a lot of forums and sub-forums, and I look for an automatic way of making it.

In fact, I would like do this in the admin CP. I would like to select what forum receive subforums. I select .txt file I have write before with x lines (x = titles of the subforums).
And all subforums will be create easily.

For exemple :

I have a .txt file with 2000 lines, and I wish to create one forum by line. I would also like to have the possibility of choosing the forum in which I want to create all the forums.

I would like to know how many forums and subforums vbulletin can support? And if the database limit it ?

Thanks for help

Its not really my business, but how usable to you expect a webboard with 2000 forums to be?

Thank you for your help

You do understand 2000 forums will be pushing both php and mysqls limits even with dedicated enviroment?

Not to mention useability will be shot to hell by members.

I have an idea to guide the members on the various forums.
But you think it is impossible for a database to support 2000 forums and more ?

Greebo 03-29-2005 06:48 PM

Like Zachery said - it will be practically unusable. I can't imagine trying to pick out the forum I want out of 2000 - at least not using the vBulletin standard layout.

Impossible? Probably not.

Wise? Probably not...

But if you're dead set on it - I'm pretty sure its a single table insert - so building a 2000 line sql statement with a bunch of inserts wouldn't be very hard...

Still think that its not a good idea tho. :)

albibak 03-29-2005 07:59 PM

It's not a good idea for the members or for the sql table ?

What could you possibly need 2000 forums for, have they even started yet?

albibak 03-29-2005 08:01 PM

lasto 03-29-2005 08:52 PM

No one is going to go that indepth about, for example mario sunshine, and if they do, create a Console forum, and if so many people are talking about 1 specific game, then give it its own forum.

Don't do the work till you need to.

I do not believe anyone needs this functionality so apart from paying someone for your time you are up to waiting for someone to do it.

But lets be realistic, even if you do add 2000 forums in 3 months you will look so inactive you will trim thoughs forums down to 1000, and then again to 500 and then again to 100 and then again to 50~ or so

I am being very honest, you need to start small and grow big, otherwise you start big and grow small.

albibak 03-31-2005 03:36 AM

Im' agree with you Zachery, but I'm not a coder, and I can't do what I want with vBulletin, so I can use more forums only :'(
I would like to have one forum, and some posts, but I can't code the first post by topic to create what I want

albibak 04-02-2005 04:48 AM

I allaways search who I can creat x forums easily

You can have as many as your environment can handle.
Do I recommend it? NO.

Yes, it is possible to 'automatically' create forums from a text file.
eg. create an excel file, save as txt file, upload to server (with a script)

You will have to ask in the Service Request as it is not available.
