waiting for "awards in postbit" but with me award in member.php is enough because I have a profile page that is BEST fit for this.

dssart 03-28-2005 09:26 AM

Congratulations on the release of YAAS 1.0 mtha! One question, am I correct in my understanding of deathemperors post that awards are not displayed in the postbit? If anyone has the hack installed, please post a link so we can see it in action.

Arial 03-28-2005 10:21 AM

Awards are not currently displayed in postbit according to mtha but will be in later version as I understand it.

The postbit is fairly important to us, what time scale do you think you have on it Mtha?

lasto 03-28-2005 10:42 AM

cant have an awards system without displaying them in postbit.

Looks an ok hack will it have an ability for members to request awards later on ?

ChrisBaktis 03-28-2005 12:03 PM

Looks good but I would need awards in the postbit also - will wait to install when that is available.

Polo 03-28-2005 12:34 PM

Looks beautiful!! Thanks mtha for sharing with the community! I will definetly install this one... this one is must have in a community lol

Does anyone know where there are award icons on the net that can be used with this

There are few icons in the zip file. The Icons (c) belong to phpBB Medal hack and some other place online

Thanks all,

Awards when rewarded at the moment can only be viewed in members profile. Next upgrade will hopefully allow rewards to be shown in postbit display for rewarded members.

yinyang 03-28-2005 05:55 PM

omg, this would be the best!

i can't wait for the post-bit code and will definitely install then.

Do you know what the difference between this and AnimeWebby's hack is?

Just that I want to release the first version ASAP, so I just thru something out for people to discuss.
It is not "cannot", it's just not yet implemented. I am working on postbits, update will be available soon.

Yes I do :D

- Database structure is different
- Award managements is different (read description in first post)
- Support is different (I am currently supporting the hack)
- and ... you can add to the list

dssart 03-28-2005 07:34 PM

Sounds like a great 1.0 release mtha, you're off to a terrific start. I'm going to wait to install until the release with the awards in the postbit also. Thanks for keeping this cool hack alive!

Also, if/when you do the postbit update..could you please include the update for us legacy postbit users?

Thaaankssss

snowlion 03-28-2005 08:27 PM

Very good hack , I like it

mtha 03-28-2005 08:27 PM

Here's the bad news.

The more function you want, the more editing you need to do, and there's one additional querry for each post showing in the thread.

well trying to minimize the queries. give me suggestion if you have any.

mtha 03-28-2005 08:44 PM

Mtha's first release of this hack was yesterday and it was more or less to test functionality. The first version didn't contain the option to display in the postbit and he posted a suggestion to get it to display but removed it because it looks like he is planning another update soon. We wait until he posts the update.

PS. If you did install the TESTING Addon for postbit (POSTBIT_addon.txt) I posted before, please process to un-do that one. (just remove the changes in that instruction file). In the new release, I will not include how to un-do that one.

Hmm, I dont see any error there. I install/uninstall several times without error.

Why dont you try to download the new version, uninstall the hack (just to make sure your database is clean), and install it again.

If the error still there, try to edit the awards_install.php, remove line 233 (where executing that drop table query) and see how it works out.

Good luck

Quick question: What is the point of "requesting" awards? It's just like I have a cake, and members are jumping on me "Hey, give me one, give me one" :D

To me, Awards is kind of You or your administrative team giving to those who get some significant constribution.

Anyway, if you can tell me why it should be included, I will re-consider.

Suggestions/requests on code optimization, functions, or displays are welcome!

Arial 03-29-2005 07:08 AM

It's not a function we would want but I can see how some would require it as a function. I presumed this to mean that members can request an award for another member not for themselves.

Say for instance you have a large group of individuals say over a 100 or so and many of them are in different sub groups etc, only they know whether somebody is deserving of a medal not one potentially aloof admin. , so the system allows the admin to see 'votes' if you like , that a certain member has had for an award from other members then he can authorise it or decline it.

I guess that is the meaning, however I think its of secondary importance to issues like
allowing members to comment on awards given etc.

I will get this new version with posbit installed basically now and put up a link shortly.

TTG 03-29-2005 07:12 AM

thanks for the upgrade mtha .. installed with no problems :)

Tried and same error - I removed that line as you said and now get this error.

Not sure why im the only one getting this error.

Please try to execute the query in phpMyAdmin or in AdminCP

[sql]
CREATE TABLE award (
award_id smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
award_cat_id smallint(5) NOT NULL default '1',
award_name varchar(50) NOT NULL default '',
award_desc varchar(250) NOT NULL default '',
award_icon_url varchar(250) NOT NULL default '',
award_img_url varchar(225) NOT NULL default '',
award_displayorder smallint(5) NOT NULL default '0',
PRIMARY KEY (award_id)
) TYPE=MyISAM;
[/sql]

there's a list of SQL queries in my "Notes.txt", could you try that manually, and see if you can do it.
BTW, do you have the right to CREATE TABLE in the database?

ChrisBaktis 03-29-2005 12:43 PM

I got a message 'effected rows: 0'

I used the vbulletin admin cp to run it. would I have gotten an error or message if it didnt take?

It seems that you was able to create the database. Check database structure in phpMyAdmin to see if you have that table created?

Is there any different from the query you ran and the one in the installation file?

Or if you are the only one who get this error, I just have you to create the tables manually.

Execute the following queries: (if you run in AdminCP, you need to run each of them individually)

[sql]
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `award`;
[/sql]
[sql]
CREATE TABLE `award` (
`award_id` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
`award_cat_id` smallint(5) NOT NULL default '1',
`award_name` varchar(50) NOT NULL default '',
`award_desc` varchar(250) NOT NULL default '',
`award_icon_url` varchar(250) NOT NULL default '',
`award_img_url` varchar(225) NOT NULL default '',
`award_displayorder` smallint(5) NOT NULL default '0',
PRIMARY KEY (`award_id`)
) TYPE=MyISAM;
[/sql]
