Make Category look like a Forum

Hi there,

I'm desperately looking for a hack that will make a category show "last post", "threads" and "posts" on forum home just like a forum without subforums would.

I have searched both this site as well as vb.com and vbulletintemplates.com without any success.

Would really appreciate anyone helping me out.

Thanks,
EC

Hi

If your not concern about another (2) querys, I think you can do this fairly easily. Looking at the code, I would venture to say that you would really need to set a limit on what you want to show and not show! This will also be based on user and forum permissions, that is why we need the second query! I'm kind of busy finishing updating and making a few mods now. If someone does not help you before I am done, (2 week the most) I will do it then. I will add it to the Forum Manager >> edit forum and add a switch in the Usergroup permissions to allow access. The only thing that will be a pain is that you will have turn this on/off for each forum. Remember though, this will only work on Forums that are parent forums, ie: Categorys greater than (1) level deep.

Just set "Act as category" to "No", and it should show them. (not entirely sure though)

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I would only need this for forums acting like categories (with only subforums in them and no posts.)

Yes, but then you have this problem.. see attachment

Only way to solve this as I see it, is to set the forum to act as a category, but then I need to make "latest post" "threads" and "posts" to be visible on forumhome.

How many categories do you have?

Would you mind take a look yourself?

Hmm, you have 5 categories, maybe more because I'm only a guest...
3 extra queries per category, that makes 15 extra queries.

You sure you want to do that :ermm:?

PS How did you get that VBT skin :D?

EscortCossie 03-28-2005 12:43 PM

Yes, I only have 5 categories, but I only need to add this modification to this forum (if that's possible?)

Yes, it's possible with template conditionals, and PHP conditionals (to limit the queries).

Why only that forum, though?

EscortCossie 03-28-2005 01:03 PM

That is the one forum using subforums only, so I don't need the other categories displaying post/thread count. (not at this time that is. maybe later on)

Deaths 03-28-2005 01:28 PM

So, basicly you want the post/tread count to be displayed in categories where there are subforums?

Yes, and latest posts.

Basicly I want attachment 1 to look like attachment 2 if you understand what I'm trying to say?

*cough* bump *cough*

Anyone want to make me this little mod?

I honestly wouldn't have a clue on how to do this, but I've always hated forumhome_subforumbit_x_y templates anyway ^^

If you are looking to get rid of that part of the template, use the following template modification. You can edit the conditional to remove it for seperate forum ID's:
