the portal page

i was thinking about a few things that have happened recently and should've got on to the news there but didn't, as a member of this community i feel that the 'news' feature isn't be utilised to give me the maximum information possible in regards to the product (vBulletin) and these forums.

i would like to see notifications of new versions, patches, mod appointments, the end of hack of the month cycle and ofcourse the start of a new one, removed hacks, a mention of stuff like deans post where he's trying to get people into chat again, oh and what would also be nice is if stuff like new hints/tips/tutorials got announced too.

at the moment the latest news is months old and stuff's happend, news doesn't have to be ground shaking, sometimes little things are important and for all of that nothing seems to be news worthy of late, i don't get it.

Agreed 100%.

yep they need to post those vbulletin versions but there, i didnt know 3.0.6 came out till 2 weeks after it came out. its because i rarely look up in the news forum. Usually i jump right to the vB3 category.

ya agreed 100%

I agree that new versions of vB should appear there, but things like the end of the hack of the month aren't that important on a whole, which could rid of some more important news item on the portal with the addition of that one. It should only be used for essential stuff regarding the community/vBulletin. The HotM happens every month, so does everyone need to be notified every single month in areas other than announcements, which I presume people check anyway? :p

I think you guys are right. I'll try to be more active with news updates. I usually post in the Announcement forum, but it should go in the portal too.

You didnt get the email? That is how I find out about new releases. Email direct from VBulletin.

Maybe their email batches are scheduled but the last security update I got from Jelsoft via email was several days after it was actually posted for download.
