AWS as a different reputation system?
 

Can AWS be used as a different reputation system based on using warning points as rep. points?

(This of course must include changes templates)

I do not use the reputation system, so I am not sure what to say. Care to elaborate a bit?

If you like a message, you can give positive reputation point, if you dislike, you can give negative. The logic is that, to encourage people writing down 'good' posts. :)

I think AWS system is suitable for this purpose because vbulletin's own system is not liked much by my members.

I guess it could be altered enough to become a reputation system, do users award points by post, or by thread? It's not difficult, I think.

For example, I wrote something about one of your hobbies and you liked my post, so you give one (1) reputation point to me by applying it on postbit, directly on the post that is subject to your liking.

For this system to work, there will be a need of some adjustments. For example, positive warnings (in this case reputation) must NOT result with a ban. :) Is it possible to ban members with negative reps? (e.g. -20 reps can be enough for ban.)

The other point, not only moderators or admins, but all members shoul give reputation to others. I think this can be done in templates. (changing the code of usergroups, right?)

With some changes, can we write why we give points to user?

Yes, I was checking the existing reputation system, and it looks as if it is per user, not per post. What I mean is that the points are accumulated per user, while you indeed vote per post.

It definitely can be done. However, I do not think it should be related or connected to banning. AWS can be modified to become a better reputation system, but I need to understand how the existing one works. For example, are there some links in the postbit, which you click to add a point or to remove a point? I assume that each user can vote only once per post? Are the user's points shown in the postbit, or are they only shown in the public profile? And yes, you can add your own comments, just like a moderator adds his comments when he warns a member.

The question is, where can this "Advanced Reputation System" be better than the existing one?

What I mean is that by the way. :) In my mind, reputation will be given to users but based on posts. For example, several user can give you reputations on different posts but they are collected together.

I don't know some coding details (if I knew I would have written it. :)) and I don't know anything about some performance issues about vBulletin but I know what my members want. :)

Of course my members didn't come to me saying AWS but I thought that it will the best hack can adopted for this purpose.

I am not asking you about coding details, all I am asking, is functionality-wise, what more can this reputation system add, upon whatever the existing functionality system is doing?

Or, do you see the added benefit, in the fact that a user who has a low reputation, can be banned from the forums? I do not agree with this idea, because you can end up with fights between your members, who will vote against one another. I can see the AWS working as a reputation system, and it is easy to adapt it for that role, but I am not sure if it is worth it.

What features will it have, on top of what is already there?

With this adaptation, everybody can see who gave what to who. For example, if a gave 1 point of reputation to b, c should ses this, but under vBulletin's standard system, this is not possible.
To avoid this, there can be a thread that users can report bad reputations. (for those who think they didn't merit.)
It doesn't need to have too many features, I think only giving reputation ((with comments) and displaying them) is enough.
