Forum View (User Controls)
 

One thing I have learned is the more options you give your members the more they will enjoy coming to your forum!

Forum Controls Version (1) vB 3.0 Gold or ^

What it does...

Adds an Admin Panel Option Set ( based on single member or groups of members )

Allows members to View or Hide categories or forums on the Forum Home.

Benefits...

Save bandwidth, give users more control of their viewing! Unlike collapsible categories that do nothing but hide content, this control does not even output any category or forum the member does not wish to view!

Think of it, many times you go to a forum and really only visit (1) category, but the forum loads 30 or 40 forums in 15 categories. Real waste on bandwidth and terrible for the user to have to scroll to where they want to go!

What the control contains!

User option to remove from view, categories and or forums! Order the categories they are viewing in the order they wish! Does not use any more DB calls, not one!

Admin Panel, contains the option to turn the control off or on. Control to limit what group has access. Control to allow or not allow certain categories or forums to be removed from view by a member or group of members!

I have been using it on (2) client forums for while, it really is a nice simple feature that will make your members really happy.

I will put a full forum demo up in a week or two so you can try it out! I plan to release this somewhere around the middle or third week of March!

Looks nice from the picture but I have a question. Is there a way to tie this to usergroups?

One thing - does this, or will this have the facilty to not show NEW posts within the forums the users have chosen to hide?

This looks to be very promising. Just a request though if possible. Could there also be an option to restrict certain areas from becoming hidden? Areas such as the anouncements board for example is not something you want members disabling ;).

I even offered to pay for it but no word, I think they have vanished, hopefully someone will follow why-not's lead and create this hack for us :(

There seems to be a beta of this available now. I just found it after finding this thread, so I'm not sure if it's ready for primetime or not.
