Now why wouyld you want to delete IE? so you can't get windows updates anymore?

Gio~Logist 03-07-2005 09:15 PM

I have windows XP

MY IE is constantly giving me pop-ups and adware, to the point where i cant even type without geting a pop up or something. I have tried everything to delete adware and pop ups but now im tired of all this.

Sounds like you are the one with issues and not IE.

Get MS Antispyware and clean up, you might also want to try hijackthis with some help from the people at daniweb.com

Upgrade to SP2 and most of your problems should be fixed with the popup blocker and the Addon Manager

SP2= service pack 2? and are the programs you mentioned are free? if so, where can i get them?

Yes, Serivce Pack 2.

MS Anitspyware can be found at microsoft.com

highjackthis can be found using a google search.

.... and for those that don't like Microsoft, don't worry, the new MS Anti-spyware application is a rebranded application from Giant. It's actually a pretty nice program. :)

So don't use IE except for Windows Update. Install MS Anti-Spyware and use Firefox from now on. Also never, ever install third-party software without lightly researching it to make sure it doesn't have spyware. The huge majority of P2P software has spyware.

basicly just stay away from sites that always have popups, dont let any popups load all the way click close right away or your just screwed. My computer seriosuly never had a virus, spyware, or popup blocker program for 3months and not one virus, trojan or spyware was found when i scanned it today finally.

Be careful while you browse to watch out for ActiveX, nasty javascript, etc. If others browse on your computer without your supervision, force them to use Firefox or tighten the security settings on your IE and then scan every weekend using Spybot or MS Anti-Spyware.

Yea watching others that use your comp is great advice. I let my brother's friends use mine once way back in 1999 and ended up with a ton of p0rn pop-up's and programs installed (dialers to p0rn servers and such).

Took me forever to clean that mess up....and now I don't even allow my parents or anyone else for that matter to use my comp, unless I am in the room, hands on keyboard and mouse, letting them feed me intructions.

alot of webmasters are just ignorent when it comes to popup advertising. especially activeX when you say no once and it keeps coming back another 10times then after the last no it doesnt let you on the site.

but it doesnt bother me anymore i just disable activeX and javascript when viewing any of those pages.

I have some sort of spyware and no spyware removal program has gotten rid of it. Whatever it is, it opens whatever browser I have set to default and opens it to some site called popuppers. And if I have the browser open already it just goes to the page and I lose all my data. :dead:

eva01_ 03-08-2005 08:16 PM

best thing to do, drop kick your computer and buy a Mac ><!!!

Guest190829 03-08-2005 08:18 PM

Yeah with the money that I don't have <_<, I like windows anyways. I'm not one of those microsoft haters or whatever.

Guest190829 03-08-2005 09:53 PM

Ghostsurf, Webroot, and some free programs that I forget the names of.

KW802 03-08-2005 10:05 PM

Danny, have you installed the MS AntiSpyWare app' yet?

Guest190829 03-08-2005 10:22 PM

Nope, but from the comments on it, I'll try it tonight.

Yea right. When I can build a machine and put mac os on it I will jump over. Don't think begin on a mac makes you any safer, if every windows user was to jump over today you can bet the spyware/malware/ad-ware/crapware/viruses would come right along with them.

The only reason there is so much crap going around for windows is that it is used by more people, bottom line.

Normally I'd throw in some argument about how malware would exist on other platforms if they were easy to make for other platforms, but in the case of spyware, you're right.

Johnny 03-09-2005 12:48 AM

it doesnt mater what OS you use, it just maters how well you can take care of what you own. i had my computer already for over 4years now and its working like i just got it today. never had a problem with it except a few times i had boot problems and nothing ever since.

and for danny if ms antivirus dont work you should also try AVG antivirus (http://www.grisoft.com) its a really good virus program also.

Guest190829 03-10-2005 01:18 AM

Okay, so far MS Antivirus is doing the job well, I scanned my pc yesterday and it found quite a few spyware apps. so we'll see how it goes.
