How slow is slow? How fast loads your forum_home?
 

Hi all,

I am tweaking my forum and I just can't get the forum_home to load under 1 second.
Now I was wondering if I just hit a wall there.
Currently it takes 1.2 seconds to generate the page, 0.8-0.9 seconds of that is php stuff, the rest DB.
Whats your experience, anyone manages to get much faster then this?

I am not here to brag or anything, just wondering if I can do more.

According to Microstats my index page loads in around 0.25 seconds in most cases.

It's also really dependant on your server, if your on shared hosting, then so many other sites are swolloing resources, where as if your on dedicated, its just your site on a server to itself, allowing you to execute high processes and still have things running at optimal speeds. :)

Yes, that is the ibproarcade.

The Yellow Arcade is the v3 arcade.

The Green Arcade is not really an arcade at all, it's just a collection of links to flash files that have permission to be hosted but not modified, but put together in a design that resembles the other arcades.

ibProarcade is a more efficient script but is not really integrated with vBulletin. Though as you've seen, if you do it right the outside user cannot tell.

ib's arcade is barely a vB hack. it tricks the system into thinking its running ipb instead of vB so it functions.

This is very true. It's a bit of smoke and mirrors really but you can still use all the vBulletin variables in the skin file, so you can get the look and feel that's needed, it's just not as easy to do.

hmm, I don't get. The init.php alone just take .8 seconds.
With the same source, on my computer (enough ghz, 1.5gb ram...), the same results.
Zachery, I have the arcade running as well. How could you tell the difference between that and the rest?

Oh, and yes, it's a shared server, but I take that into account.

I looked around and delete some templates that weren't used. That gave me .2-.4 seconds. So I am at .95 seconds...

anybody here running php 4.3.10 aswell? With the slow unserialize implementation

optimize your styles
Every style created by extremepixels, and even the default ones, have comments, ++++loads of whitespace,linebreaks,tabs etc..
i removed all linebreaks, unecessary quotes, and lots of the added crap, and my page loads .5 seconds faster. it makes a big difference. if anyones interested in purchasing a style that is optimized for speed, you can im me at revengist on aim.
the style comes with arcade hack and warning hack templates already there and optimized.

Time for a dumb question on my behalf.... what method are you guys using to get the stats that explicitly state "(x.xx% PHP - xx.xx% MySQL)" ?

I would guess either Microstats, or Erwins version Kevin :)

I'm using Erwin's and get the output that I gave above so it must be MicroStats.

Right now I am optimizing my templates and I will post here how much that helps.

Templates shouldn't make much of a big deal, its your phpcode and your querys :)

Stripping html where it isn't needed should cut down page rendering(Execution) time yes?

I found that setting CSS to files helped a small bit in page size anyways.
