PM reply button (no quotes)

what i would love, is to have like we did in VB2, with in a Pm a reply button that when u press it, just replys to the person, without any quotes

can anyone do this and make my day ;D

thanks

This needs to be standard for one cause its annoying erasing the quoted stuff after you have been pming someone back and forth for awhile

exactly

or sometimes u just dont want to quote

also a nice big "NEW PM button would be nice, some new members that arent use to using the PM system dont see the "send a PM" link

I have a template edit on vB.com for just adding a reply button (send a new pm to them, no title, no quotes)

Keyser S?ze 02-28-2005 04:28 PM

anyone going to be able to do this? thanks

Its a simple template edit
HTML Code:

http://www.yoursite.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&userid=$post[userid]
and if you only want it to show on private.php you add a conditional

<if condition="THIS_SCRIPT == private"> </if>

See Quote options in thread and private message replies.

im sorry maybe im just not smart enough but that explination just doesnt make me understand what i need to do to add a reply button in the private messages

i dont want to change anything to the postbit (when i say that i mean, im perfectly happy with the way it is set up now as it is), its just the private messages i want a reply button, i do however relize that the private message system is run partially off the postbit

but what im not sur eof is what to change where or add there, u see

thanks

You can also do it like this!

Open 'private.php'

FIND THIS!

Code:

                                if ($_REQUEST['stripquote'])
                                {
                                        $pagetext = strip_quotes($pm['message']);
                                }
                                else
                                {
                                        // this is now the default behavior -- leave quotes, like vB2
                                        $pagetext = $pm['message'];
                                }
                                $pagetext = trim(htmlspecialchars_uni($pagetext));

                                eval('$pm[message] = "' . fetch_template('newpost_quote', 1, 0) . '";');

REPLACE WITH

Code:

                                if ( empty ( $_REQUEST['noquote'] ) )
                                {
                                        if ($_REQUEST['stripquote'])
                                        {
                                                $pagetext = strip_quotes($pm['message']);
                                        }
                                        else
                                        {
                                                // this is now the default behavior -- leave quotes, like vB2
                                                $pagetext = $pm['message'];
                                        }
                                        $pagetext = trim(htmlspecialchars_uni($pagetext));

                                        eval('$pm[message] = "' . fetch_template('newpost_quote', 1, 0) . '";');
                                }
                                else
                                {
                                        $pm[message] = '';
                                }

Go to templates => 'postbit' and 'postbit_legacy' (1) edit (SAME EDIT) each template!

FIND THIS!

Code:

                        <if condition="$post['replylink']">
                                <a href="$post[replylink]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/<if condition="$post['forwardlink']">reply_small<else />quote</if>.gif" alt="$vbphrase[reply_with_quote]" border="0" /></a>
                        </if>

REPLACE WITH

Code:

                        <if condition="$post['replylink']">
                        <if condition="THIS_SCRIPT=='private'">
                                <a href="$post[replylink]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/quote.gif" alt="$vbphrase[reply_with_quote]" border="0" /></a>
                                <a href="$post[replylink]&amp;noquote=1"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/reply_small.gif" alt="$vbphrase[reply_to_private_message]" border="0" /></a>
                        <else />
                                <a href="$post[replylink]"><img src="$stylevar[imgdir_button]/<if condition="$post['forwardlink']">reply_small<else />quote</if>.gif" alt="$vbphrase[reply_with_quote]" border="0" /></a>
                        </if>
                        </if>

This allows for reply to PM with quote and reply to PM no message, but will load the title and who you are replying too!
