HotM February
Which Modification should win this contest this month?
It's you, who decides!!! |
We're flattered!
Thanks to all the supporters of vBGarage for getting us nominated again! I really did wanna chase the title one more time, but with vBG 4.1.0. I'm flattered for the nomination of 4.0.3. Thanks to Magnus and Action-N for the code we started with. |
Jukebox :)

Tnx to everyone who has supported the Jukebox :) |
Really good hacks nominated, will be a tough choice for voters no doubt.
I vote for vbGarage, because I use it (though a hacked-up v3.1.1 version) and also think it has the greatest potential, imho. Good luck to all nominees :) |
Stats in my opinion.... i love it.
good luck to all!! |
Woohoo I got GAS :)
Very cool to be nominated. Id like to thank my mom and dad, my higher power, and all the fans ;) Good luck everyone - some smoking hacks up there :) |

|
vB Statistic version 3.0.0 :D

i have removed vb garage and the geek articles as old threads were nominated already.
you know why we have in the rules to not start new threads with new hack versions? ;) |

hmm ... i did vote for the jukebox (naturaly), not the poll has the downloads italiced .... did my vote get moved with the change or is it just a small glitch?
|
Yeah! i vote for statistik! :dead:
|
Has to be the stats hack for me :)

It's all good. Magnus earned it already. There is a new thread because he passed the torch and the code is mostly new and improved. But I understand the math. Good luck to the nominees! |
But my vote was captured, so though the option for vbGarage is now removed (:(), I can't get to vote again.
Any chance that could be fixed ? :) |

It seems that GAS3 has been eliminated because the author appears to have broken one of your rules ... rather than whether or not GAS3 is a new hack deserving of a nomination. Yes, vB.org can flex its muscle by penalizing the author, but at what cost to the community? While rules may not "be made to be broken", it is the wisdom and judgment of the people who enforce those rules that proves their merit.
And in this case, I fail to see your wisdom. No doubt, you have the power. And along with it, the power to discourage brilliant & generous coders. Whatever the path through which GAS3 evolved, it is not a revision of a previously nominated hack and deserves to be recognized as such. The author has asked you to look at the code. In fairness to all, should you do less? (on a side note: how are you going to make the vote tallies accurate?) |
wow my votes now been given to the banners hack, and while it's a good hack, i'd rather give my vote to the mega jukebox
|
Changing the vote options after people have voted doesn't seem a very well thought out idea ......
Still, maybe you could knock a couple more out, then my last hack would qualify :) |
Feels like 2000 all over again!

/me votes for [ Audio / Visual ] - VB Mega Jukebox - Now with permissions to save bandwith.

Going by your argument, vbGarage too is a near complete rewrite of the old hack. And for that matter, many other hacks with new versions released here on vb.org. I think the rule is more along the lines of a hack ( whichever version ) only gets the chance to be nominated once. :) Please correct me if I'm wrong. |
We're orphans.
But there is a method to the madness and it's probably fair. Not like I know what it is though. ;) The support vBulletin.org gives us is reward enough! |
I voted for the underdog. :D
But the Jukebox and Stats hacks are damn fine hacks. :) |

Maybe the moral of the story is that a rose is a rose even if it's a turnip. Who knows what might have happened to "vB Carport" or "Geek Essays Written in Ballpoint Pen on One Side of the Paper" ... :ermm: |

hoopla!
My B&M is that we are not talking about a re-write of code. We are really talking about a completely different system (hence the reason for the seperate thread). When I do rewrites of my hacks - they go in the same thread. Because of the auto-selection process, my template swaping hack (gas2) means that the serious article hack (which took weeks to do versus the 1/2 day for the other) doesnt ever get a chance at bat. Considering the template swaping hack was a fairly close second (considering what it was) - I think its clear that GAS3 would have done pretty freaking well. It would have been at least nice to of had someone look into it. Maybe Ill go rename GAS3 to Funky Article Reading and Templating System and then it will qaulify! my parting words - look at the freaking hacks - looooook at the freaking hacks. They are not rewrites - the are different things all together. [edit]ooo. BTW: I didnt vote for the Jukebox hack - though it does look kind of cool[/edit] |
