Expands for what?

Expandable text.

Organize posts and such. Following the link is really the best way to see what it does and how it works.

babolo 02-13-2005 04:48 AM

Huh? This hack is confusing.

nexialys 02-13-2005 04:55 AM

kinda like another "hidden text" thingy, but with expandable div... quite easy to deal with...

i will have an autoinstall php script posted within a day.
this is just a post to show what will be coming in a day
Within 24 hours an installation for the hack will be released. This is here to show what it is and its functionality.

EDIT: Sorry, but the hidden text thing was put in there by mistake. Any text that someone wants to put inside that box can be done using the [expand] tags.

Jolten 02-13-2005 07:03 AM

I really have no clue why you would post this as a hack yet include NO INFORMATION on installation. If you're just spouting off.. this doesn't seem like the right place.

Oblivion Knight 02-13-2005 07:11 AM

That's pretty cool, it could be used as a spoiler tag.

thats mint m8 will add keeps the board tidy lol :)

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 11:42 AM

this looks cool - I am looking forward to playing with it :)

RMS-Chef 02-13-2005 12:46 PM

very neet. well done.

noppid 02-13-2005 01:04 PM

This is a vast improvement over the spoiler code hacks that just hide the text in the same color as the postbit. Users may actually "get" what to do.

Cool idea!

One question, what happens if javasrcipt or java, which ever controls that, is off?

The Geek 02-13-2005 01:24 PM

I have something like this for spoilers... but I was curious if multiple expandable boxes were on a page... does it still work correctly?

Mine was done via custom BB code and I couldnt get a unique ID for the DIV becasue of it. Therefore if there is more than 1 per page it tweaks out.

Just curious. Looks cool

[edit]

here is the one i did but only works if there is one per page-> http://www.thenailgeek.com/showpost....2&postcount=30

[/edit]

pimpery 02-13-2005 01:52 PM

yours requires unique ids because you use the vbulletin built in one. mine uses relative ids based on the siblings of the button u press. you can have unlimited number on a page and they will not conflict eachother.

as for if someone has javascript disabled, ill have 2 versions. one where the things are expanded by default, and one where they are collapsed by default.

sweet ;)

pimpery 02-13-2005 05:17 PM

the autoinstall script has been made :)
its been attached to the first post!
enjoy!!! :D

Mark.B 02-13-2005 05:42 PM

Sorry, but this just doesn't work at all.

For starters the install_collapsed script calls install_expanded so it fails.

Having remedied that, it also doesn't account for people who have moved their admincp. Remedied that.

Despite this, the script fails when tested, see here:

http://www.bowlandcentral.com/forum/...585#post590585

It tells me that 'ns6 is undefined'.

Finally, the image used for the arrow hotlinks to a remote server.

Oh also the caption displays a '5' instead of the actual caption!

Jolten 02-13-2005 05:59 PM

I guess I'm missing something.. I see no install instructions or zip files at all.

They've gone...they were here ten minutes ago.

I am guessing the author is rewriting them.

i apoligize for the errors. my friend wrote part of the code and i did not realize he was so dumb. i am sure i fixed all the errors so try again now.
also, theres another step now, where you have to goto your admin panel bbcode manager and activate the bbcode.

sirbutts 02-13-2005 07:05 PM

pimpery, i just installed this hack and it seems to be working great
btw, you should put an example of accordion boxes within other accordion boxes, they look pretty cool and show how awesome this hack is.
on a side note, i appreciate the fact that you made an installscript that did everything cept click a button in the bbcode manager, for us.
more hack creators should be doing that rather than having us search and replace :X. i remember the aws took me 2 hours to install when a search and replace script could have been made.
keep up the good work pimpy :)

Mark.B 02-13-2005 07:10 PM

I am still getting the same end result, although the install now works.

'error: ns6 is undefined'

what browser you are using?? it works fine for me

Mark.B 02-13-2005 07:17 PM

It's IE. Have a look here:
http://www.bowlandcentral.com/forum/...ad.php?t=30260

Mark.B 02-13-2005 07:31 PM

I now have this working, which I achieved by nicking some more code out of the js file on your own site.

Basically the bit you add isn't sufficient, it needs a bit more.

pimpery 02-13-2005 07:31 PM

the problem is you didnt remove the garbage from the buggy first installation thing
goto vbulletin_global.js and remove the excess stuff at the bottom, then use the new installer again

its evident anyways since it works fine for buttsy

sirbutts 02-13-2005 08:38 PM

<a href="http://pop.pimpsofpain.com/showthread.php?p=16462#post16462" target="_blank">http://pop.pimpsofpain.com/showthrea...6462#post16462</a>
installed it using expand_install_collapsed.php (default=collapsed)

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 09:55 PM

it installed right away, no problems. Thanks for the hack! it works great!

I hate to be a pain, but shouldn't this hack ALSO have a text installer as well to conform to vbulletin.org rules? Alot of people don't feel comfortable with having an auto-install only hack.

Also- one small bug, that most "hide" type hacks have... go to the forum and look at the thread listing in the forum view and mouse over the subject, and the popup window will show the hidden text with no problems. Perhaps this 'bug' can be worked out?

edit: I just also noticed that this hack is not compatible with Firefox. I have javascript enabled in Firefox, but when I click it does nothing.

hmm, im using firefox and it works fine? would you mind linking your forum
as for text only version, ill add a text only version now.

pimpery 02-13-2005 10:45 PM

finished making the manual installation instructions. now attached to the first post as a txt file. :)

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 10:58 PM

pimpery- I sent you a PM

pimpery 02-13-2005 11:07 PM

i read your pm and went to your site, and there seems to be no error
im using firefox 1.0, and the boxes expand and collapse perfectly
i dont know what else to say>?

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 11:26 PM

it's pretty wacky. Anway- thanks for checking the site out. Unless other people report otherwise I will assume that the error is on my end somehow, and not with the hack and Firefox.

Mark.B 02-13-2005 11:34 PM

I have it working ok now, though I have tweaked the style somewhat but it's still the same hack and the same Javascript.

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 11:38 PM

I found what might be the Firefox Error: 'expandit is not defined'

this has been confirmed by 2 other people...

yoyoyoyo 02-13-2005 11:46 PM

I figured it out! You need to restart FIrefox for it to work :)

pimpery 02-13-2005 11:52 PM

hahaha, musta been your cache man. firefox is lil wierd with cache. it sometimes doesnt get new versions of pages, or downloads the new js file from the server. your firefox probably didnt get the new js, so it didnt have the function to expand/collapse the accordion boxes.

and, since all is well, shouldn't this be moved to the Full Releases?

pimpery, i was wondering, is it possible you could make a tree-type bbcode.
thatd be really awesome for tutorials. :)

pimpery 02-14-2005 02:00 AM

That could be accomplished by using this bbcode within itself, designing the tree to your liking.

sirbutts 02-14-2005 02:11 AM

oh awesome. didnt know u could put anytihing other than text in the boxes. :D
