shouldn't we be well into voting for february's by now?

They start on the 15th of the month.

so when does the current one close?

at the same time - one closes, another starts - afaik it's all done via a cron job.

and how does the hacks get selected ?

in the same kinda way that the "thread of the week hack" works, just simple database selection, most installs i think that's what this system works on anyway.

yep, hacks released during the period with the highest installcount.

Hehe, so from now on i will be only releasing hacks on the 16th of each month :D

the selection period is not identically to the period of the hotm contest ;)

Huh. I thought the HOTM was based on quality - not quantity :)

it's hard to check quality automatically.

but if a lot of people install a hack, you can imagine, it's qualitativ ;)

If you have a "major addition" hack then release it in the first week of the month - chances are you will win next months vote and no one else will get a look in. I would already put money on the latest of the long line of articles hacks winning Februarys HoTM. :ermm:

but ... a hack can only be nominated once ;)
