upgrading meens starting over?

Is it true that when you are upgrading and you have say for EG:arcade hack installed ,you have to re-install all your hacks?isnt there away you can upgrade and keep your hacks?

Andreas 01-21-2005 12:18 PM

If the hacks you are using modify PHP-Files of vBulletin: Yes, you must re-apply the modifications.
If you are using addons that just use vBulletin as backend they will in most cases continue to work.

But this is not that hard with a good file compare/merge utility like Beyond Compare (my favourite).

at the moment i only have 1hack but in future im going to have loads and i will want to upgrade but not have to re-install numerous hacks

whats the difference in 3.0.3 and 3.0.6

Andreas 01-21-2005 12:36 PM

0.0.3 ;)

Mainly security fixes and some minor bug-fixes.

You should carefully select which hacks you want to have, because having too much/not optimized hacks will add some serious overhead.

i was thinking of
Arcade
Ushop
Pets
rap systemdo u think i should upgrade when 4.0.0 is out

Andreas 01-21-2005 12:41 PM

4.0.0 is aaaages away, m8.

I'd advise you to upgrade now, at least apply the security fixes from 3.0.5 (init.php) and 3.0.6 (functions_bbcodeparse.php)

well you see i dont do the hacks my host galacnet.com does it
so what should i tell him to do?

Logan70 01-21-2005 12:55 PM

Going back to the original question.

We use Beyond Compare to upgrade versions when needed. It bascially examines 2 complete folder and file structures and tell you the line for line changes.

If you have installed the hack with good comments then will not be a problem to move just the hack code to the new versions.
