Creating Discussion thread for Announcementposts
Hi,
I created two new forums. 1. Announcement and News where I inform the users about changes etc. and 2. Announcement and News Discussions where they can talk about the changes. It would be nice now to have a hack which has a small checkbox while creating a new post in the first board asking me if I want to have a discussion thread created automatically. If this option is turned on the hack should create a new post with the 'same name + DISCUSSION' like the original thread has in the second board. Example: You inform the users that you have a new style installed. Threadtitle in Announcement and Newsforum: New style installed Text: whatever Checkbox: Create discussion thread - marked After clicking on submit the hack should: Post a thread called: New style installed discussion in a specified board with the text. Discuss about the latest announcement here Then the hack should remind the threadid of the newly created thread and place it in the original thread New style installed just above the users signature (to make sure its the last line in the post). Something like: Discuss this Announcement which should be a link to the discussion thread. Hopefully its clear what I want to do. Thanks in advance jluerken |

I understand what you want, and it might not be too difficult. Just a question though: why do you split them?

I am using the news and announcement board also on my portal page and don't want to have comments there. The users are not allowed to write in this board so I created a new one where they are :D |
Do you prefer a sloppy throw-together in php, or would you rather it take longer and be integrated into the admin panel?

Well done man! When do you think will you post this hack? |
As soon as I get $60 in my paypal account.
I'm joking. :p As soon as I finish completely testing it. Soon. :) |

I will look forward to it :D |
Any news Tekton?

Hi. Everything works great.... except for one thing... of course. :P
The preview button is creating the thread and extra info as well as the post button. I'm currently looking into it by trying to determine a way to check which is which (harder than it should be). I could post it in beta forum I guess.. admin panel is kind of sloppy, but the preview button was the only thing I was concerned about fixing. |

Been busy upgrading site hacks for security reasons, so haven't gotten around to anything yet. Maybe I can fix it sometime this weekend.

Weekend is over now. Any news? :speechless: |
Been working my butt of on a photopost problem (damn you photopost!), so no. I'll just add it in the beta thing and then maybe someone can fix the preview thing for me?
|
Would you mind if it was a "Submit and create Discussion" button instead of a checkbox? The preview problem can be easily handled then.

Important is that only admins see this button and that this button will only be displayed in the News Forum and not in all forums. I think your option page takes already care about this anyway |
I'll post when I finish it (won't have time till friday/weekend most likely)

I know what you're talking about. I had also a lot of stress this weekend. Lets take a look at this again this week. Hopefully we manage to get this final until february. :D |
